NBR: I need a good book to read, recs?

I just finished rereading Water for Elephants and got a couple of books at Costco this weekend but none of them are sparking my interests. Anyone read anything good lately? TIA!

Re: NBR: I need a good book to read, recs?

  • It was fantastic, don't you think?!

I recently read The Help, and I LOVED IT!!  (This will be a movie August 12th, I believe)

Something Borrowed is coming out in theatres soon as well and I loved that book too, it's a light, easy read but I found myself literally laughing out loud several times during it.  I've read it, and the two that follow about 3 or 4 times now!!

  • I've just read Something Borrowed, it's sme good trashy chick-lit!

I liked the Dragon Tattoo Series, if you haven't read those.

I'm currently reading Nurture Shock, which is kind of like Freakonomics (another excellent book to read) but about child development, instead of economic indicators.

Baby Boy Born 3.15.11. 8lb 9oz, 21.75in. 6 month stats: 20lb 11oz (92%tile), 30.12in.(100%tile - who knew it went over 99th? Which means 100% of other 6 month olds are shorter than mine!)

I definitely liked it but I'm such a baby when it comes to animal cruelty so some of that stuff was hard to get through, I don't know if I'll be able to see the movie because of it Tongue Tied

I keep going back and forth about reading The Help, I've heard great things from several people so I guess I should just go ahead and get it, thanks!

  • I read The Hunger Games trilogy while on bedrest and really enjoyed them, and they are really quick reads.  I also enjoyed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books.

  • Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward.  It's a series of 9 books.  OOOO MMM GGGG!!!!  Huge, Hot, vampire love

*note, it's very ADULT.  sex and violence.  Let me know if you like paranormal romance.  I have a few other series that are amazing.  And not all about vampires:)

  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows  The characters are so charming, and the story is told through letters back and forth between them.

    I really liked this one!

  • I also vouch for The Help.  Also, The American Wife is a page turner.  The main character is "loosely" based on Laura Bush and follows her growing up and becoming the first lady.

  • I agree with The Help and American Wife are great reads.

I also loved Loving Frank. It's historical fiction about Frank Lloyd Wright. Lots of scandal and really good.

I got Little Bee to read but haven't gotten around to it yet. It's another I've heard good things about  though.

Elephants are my all-time favourite animal, so I totally feel you there - I was worried about it too but I went anyway to the show... It was very difficult to watch some scenes - I just tell myself it's special effects, but I felt sick to my stomach at times.  Overall, I think the movie was a really good representation of the book - I was not disappointed!!  Bring kleenex...I didn't but should have!!!

I loved both of these trilogies!!  And I hear they are both getting made into movies too...
