nbr: what's up with the FB "deals" thing?

What is the new FB "deals" thing that it's trying so hard to get me to sign up for? Those of you who have (and according to FB, that's quite a few of you)...what's the benefit?

    I'm so glad you asked this.  I've been wondering the same thing.  At first I assumed it was another scam to get our info but so many of my "friends" have signed up for it, I'm curious now.

    It's like Groupon or any of the others. 

    This.  We saw a story on the news the other night about how Facebook is dipping into that market, and they are testing it out in about 5 cities (including Austin and Dallas) before expanding.

    I also heard that the deals will all be things you can do with your friends or in a social setting (ex: not teeth whitening).  Not sure if this is actually the case, but so far they've all been things you can do with people.
