Dollar Tree HPT's: NOT recommended

I don't know if I just got a few bad eggs, but I do NOT recommend Dollar Tree HPT's!  I tested positive last weekend with a First Response - 5 days sooner test. Confirmed it with a blood test on Monday. For fun this morning I took a Dollar Tree test to see if the line was a lot darker than last weekend, and there was no second line at all! So, I used another, and again, NO second line.  I was a bit worried that my HCG levels were dropping or something and the test was no longer detecting pregnancy, so I bought a CBE test and the second line could not have been more dark and positive.

  • They worked for me.  Oh and we're all KU so no need for HPT recommendations.

  • Sounds like a bad batch to me. I used them with DD and they showed a BFP before anything else did. I've recommended them to several friends, and they never had issues either.

And while you said no second line showed at all, I will say that if a second line did show, and it wasn't darker...that doesn't mean anything other than there wasn't as much dye in the test.

There was no second line, not even a faint one.

  • I had good success with my Dollar Tree HPTs. I also had a bunch of them so I got to watch the line get progressively darker.

I remember seeing a list (maybe from peeonastick.com?), and Dollar Tree tests ranked pretty well.

  • Yeah one did not work for me! I took it 2 days after i missed. BFN! That day my work was offering open enrollment for short term disability insurance to get 60% of your pay during maternity. I took the test to make sure I wasn't because you cant get pg for 2 months after you enroll into the insurance. So since I got a BFN I got the insurance... 2 days later BFP on first response and CBE! I am keeping the insurance... I think it would be bad juju if I cancel now since I was pg and thought I wasnt when I got it! Maybe I am just crazy!

And it may change one more time once we get an u/s next month. What difference does it make-only 5% of babies are born on their due date, anyway.

  • I love those tests. I have never had a problem with them and tested positive when positive and negative when negative. Had to be a bad batch. I even tested as early as 9 dpo with this one and it had a 2nd line.

Just because you got a bad batch doesn't discount the multiple ladies on here who did get positives with them.  Stop trying to scare the TTGP girls, and ifuckingHATE the term prego.

  • Being a former POAS addict, every Dollar Tree test that I took was positive. No problems whatsoever. I had a Walgreens test completely fail to show even the control line. It's possible to get a bad/error test with any brand. I didn't write a dramatic post proclaiming that everyone should avoid Walgreens tests.

haha Big Smile.  I liked the wondfo tests, they were more accurate than the more expensive ones.  Maybe less dye in the tests or a bad batch.

  • ---I took the First Response one first to make sure I wasn't before I started to take some high powered antibiotics. It came up negative. Then I took another one while taking the medication and it came up faintly positive (@2 1/2 wks pg), but I didn't know until after i got a very positive First Response at 4 weeks pg. So for fun, I took a dollar tree test and it was very dark.

-- But my friend who is about 12 weeks now took a dollar tree test at 5 weeks and it came out negative on a Sunday. Needless to say that Tuesday she was very shocked when she went for her annual Tuesday and they told her that she was pregnant. Her lines on the drs. test were dark, but Dollar Tree's were very faint for a while. But I agree that the die in the test may vary and have something to do with it.

So, I guess my feeling on tests are that if you think you are pg. get tested at your doctor for sure. Good Luck ladies!

I used cheapies from Amazon that cost less than $1 each and I got a + 2 days before an expesnive test.  Just because they cost more, it does not mean they are better.  They cost more because of advertising, etc.  The internet cheapies are the exact same strips that they use at the dr. and are usually more sensitive than the ones that cost $10.

  • LOVED $ store when TTC.  Tested whenever I wanted with no $ guilt.  They always worked great for me.

Also, isn't this a weird board to post this on?  I assume everyone here already has a bfp.
