Babies on the Brain

PUPPS

I've been itching like crazy for a day or two and I just noticed what looks like the beginnings of a rash on my belly and under my boobs. I have an appt in 2 hours anyway so I'm sure my CNM will tell me, but I wanted to ask what others have experienced with this (if that's what it is)?

Does it go away, or will I have it the rest of the pregnancy? Any dangers other than scratching my skin off?

Re: PUPPS

  • My cousin had it really bad, on her feet and and tummy. I think she ended up doing Oatmeal baths regularly (like you do for chickenpox).

  • I really hope for your sake it's not PUPPS.   I had that with Sydney for the last 2 weeks (then it lasted maybe a week after too).   OMG  I've never itched so miserably in my life.   My CNM said the best I could do was Caladryl (which is Calamine/Benedryl).   I'd slather that stuff on, but you are totally pink.    For a clear option, I found a benedryl spray that was purse size, so nice when I needed to be out in public.

Mine started on my belly, then moved to my entire arms and legs.

Thankfully, I didn't get it again with Annabelle

  • OMG I hope not. I had a very very mild case and it still sucked a big one. Isn't it early to get it though? For some reason I thought it only happened at the end. I hope so, and that it's something else.

  • I had PUPPP hardcore with Jack.  It started at 19 weeks.  I tried a million different "remedies" and soaking myself in Calamine was the only thing that gave me a little relief.  I eventually got in to see a dermatologist.  She did a biopsy to verify that's what it was, then prescribed a steroid ointment and an antihistimine and Olay body ribbons bodywash.  It went away after a week of that regimen, then tried to come back the day after I had Jack, then went away for good after a few days of that.

It sucks SO hard. Try to get in to a dermatologist.  They're probably the best qualified to deal with it.

I should have said lower ribs instead of under boobs - it's not like where my underwires are, 2-3 inches below that.

appt in 30 so we'll see what she says. It's very minor right now, but very itchy.
