What do you guys think of these names? I have been looking for an old-fashioned, unique, "old man" type of name, such as Walter, Fred, or Norman, but these two names jumped out at me. When I looked them up on Baby Name Wizard, I was really surprised to see that they both are experiencing spikes in popularity right now. Lincoln was listed as 188 and Desmond was in the 500s. So still not super popular, but much higher than I expected. I've never heard them on any kids.
Are they trendy and I just didn't realize it? How common, really, is a name that isn't in the top 100? What do you think of these names, overall? What do you think of when you hear a boy/man named Lincoln or Desmond?
Re: Lincoln vs. Desmond
I really like Desmond!
I love Desmond!
I think Lincoln is climbing faster as far as the president, surname trend goes although all things Irish are pretty popular as well. Overall, I have heard Lincoln thrown around more then Desmond. I didn't notice your ticker, but if you have time I would wait until the SS names list is updated for 2010 in the next 2 weeks to see how fast each of these names jumped. You can notice a trend for the most part by how quickly they gain in popularity from 1 year to the next.

Meet Desmond Lucas
I love both (DH vetoed Lincoln this time around), but obviously Desmond is my favorite.
DS is 2 months away from turning 2 and we've yet to meet another kid named Desmond. One person we met at the library said her neighbor's son was named Desmond, but that's the closest we've gotten to meeting another.
I haven't met any kids named Lincoln either.
Which list are you looking at? You should be looking at this one, IMO, because it contains middle names as well:

My other presidential favorites:
Warren
James
William
Calvin
Theodore
As you can see, there's a way to include your husband's interest without being trendy. (You'll notice the names I've listed above are all the given names of the Presidents, rather than their last names.)
