ants in baby's room - anyone dealt with this?

Today I came home from work to find ants all over the changing table in Zoe's room. The table is not dirty but is near a window. I cleared everything off the table, wiped it down with vinegar and water, and then cleaned everything off the table. However, I kept finding ants on the wall and floorboard.

Has anyone else dealt with this? I don't want to put down poison in her room and I'm hesitant to have someone come spray because that is also poison AND I'm pregnant. Anyone had luck with other remedies or know of other options? TIA!

  • baking soda.  Since it's non-toxic you can put it down without worrying that LO will get sick from it.  We haven't had the problem in her room but we have it in the bathroom.  We sprinkle a bunch down where we see the ants coming in and it slowly makes them disappear.

    Good luck!

  • There's probably a hill outside the window.  Put something down outside.  We do this and it works wonders.  Nothing stops the ants once they get in.

  • I heard vinegar. Also, insects release pheromones when scared. If you have the heart to do it, squash some. They give off a natural bug repellant.

  • You can use food grade diatemacious earth. It's just a powder that you can spread around to stop certain types of bugs. I use it on my cats to keep them from getting fleas or ticks. It's totally safe.
  • you can also use table salt, or draw a line with a piece of chalk...i work at a daycare, so we can't use anything chemical/harmful, but those actually work!

  • We had an exterminate come in and put down this ant bait of sorts. It was a clear gel that he just squished in drops throughout DDs room in places she couldn't touch but in areas where we saw bats. The point is for them to carry it back to their nests where it kills them. We also had them do it throughout the rest of our house and haven't had an ant since. We live on a half acre lot of first that used to be all orange groves so we get quite a bit of pests/insects.
