DH and I had a "courthouse" wedding. So I wore a short black and white dress. But we are renewing our vows on our first anniversary and I'm wearing a more traditional ivory, strapless a-line gown. It's soooo pretty.

I clicked Ivory- I think it was technically "champaign". Strapless mermaid, beaded rouching on top, a strip of vintage lace, and then the bottom was all ruffles. It was very vintage feeling, and I had a flapper-style hat made to match. I love it! I still pull it out every year on our anniversary and wear it while I'm home alone...
Mine was diamond white. I loved it so much. I donated it to Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, and I hope the bride who ends up with it loves it just as much.
My dress was supposed to be ivory, (and it did, in fact, say ivory) but looked more white. I was so in love with my dress that I swore I was going to sleep in it - by the end of the reception I couldn't wait to get it off - so heavy! But I felt like a princess

I had 2 dresses one White; and one Ivory. We got married in Las Vegas and then had a renewal of vows a year later and I had a different dress. We were together for 8 years and my DH is Canadian and didn't realize what a process everything would be and when we got engaged we spoke with an immigration lawyer who said his work visa would expire before we could get everything processed so we ended up getting married a month after we got engaged. Both Dresses are below!

Mine was an off-white, tea length, strapless, vintage inspired gown. The bottom was completely made of tulle and the top was tulle with beautiful tulle rose details. I wore fuchsia heels with it and an off-white ostrich feather hair detail. I loved my wedding dress!!
Mine was diamond white. I loved it so much. I donated it to Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation, and I hope the bride who ends up with it loves it just as much.
Vintage 1930s-era wedding dress found in a vintage shop in Chicago. It originally had hugely poofy shoulders, 3/4-length sleeves, and a train about 5 ft. long. It was also apparent that the original wearer was much, much taller and a few sizes bigger than myself. Needless to say, I had it heavily altered.
I loved the small details on the dress, like the stem of flowers on the bottom side. I was also in love the bodice. I just adored this dress and wish I could wear it again!

That is SO cool and *gorgeous*!! What a lucky find and great alterations!!
My dress was a Soft White....it's a color that is in between white and Ivory....it was a strapless pick up style with organza on the bottom and middle front. Top had beads and crystals. I also had a french bustle added on so after the ceremony I could have the train tied up.
I had a matching viel that had scalloped edges with pearls and swarovski crystals and a matching headband with swarovski crystals.
DH is Canadian and didn't realize what a process everything would be and when we got engaged we spoke with an immigration lawyer who said his work visa would expire before we could get everything processed so we ended up getting married a month after we got engaged.
I hear ya - I naturalised a couple of weeks ago, and I am SO glad to be done with immigration. For similar reasons (it's a long story!), DH and I married at City Hall, and I wore a pair of linen pants and a white shirt.
On a slight tangent, I've been working to lose weight and my "reward" when I reach my goal weight is going to be to go and try on wedding dresses. I've never seen myself in a wedding dress, and my one regret about getting married the way I did was that I never got that experience.

Its quite crazy! DH went from temporary permanent resident to actual permanent resident last year. He eventually wants to become a US Citizen; I can only imagine what craziness is involved in that process. That is an awesome reward!!!

I was, of course, insanely in love with my dress. Everyone agreed it fit my personality to a tee. I was also in love with the veil, which was my mom's, and which I insisted on wearing even though at first it really didn't go with the dress - the seamstress worked magic on it.
Mine was two-toned. It was Ivory on top and had a champagne band at the waist with a champagne A-line skirt. I found it on ebay and only went dress shopping to make my mom happy. She thought I was nuts, but it was my dream dress and it was on ebay for $350 after shipping. I was ULTRA lucky because it fit almost perfectly and only needed the straps taken up 1/2 inch.
Mine was strapless, white, and had a small train. It also had a candy apple red sash that tied around my waist and trailed down the length of my train. I loved it

Oops! I voted Ivory, but just realized that I actually had one of each.
Just after we got engaged, my dad's Alzheimer's took a sharp nose-dive. My dad loved my husband a lot, and we wanted to make sure he saw us get married before he became too out of it. So we threw together a tiny little 10-person ceremony in 3 weeks. We call that one "Dad's Ceremony" or "the July Ceremony" lol.
So for that one, I had this cute little knee-length white cotton dress from J Crew. It has little Swiss dot embellishments, very sweet.
Then we had the "official" wedding almost a year later with all our friends and family. For that one I had a Pronovias strapless A-line in antique ivory with lovely lace and beading.

Thank you! It was funny because that day, my mom had come up to Chicago and we had 3 wedding gown shops to visit. In between appointments, we had some time to kill so I took her to my favorite vintage shop. The owner asked what I was doing that day and I told her wedding gown shopping. She asked if I was interested in a real vintage dress and I said yes. After that, I forgot about every dress before and after that.
And all of you ladies (and your gowns) looked gorgeous! I'm loving this thread!

I hope to one day give my dress to my daughter. It is ivory, strapless, princess silhouette, with a chapel train. Applique beading and embroidered lace. I love it!!
"Anyone can give up, it's the easiest thing in the world to do. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart, that's true strength."
Loved my dress! It was ivory because ivory looked so much better on my fair skin! Little sheer cap sleeves and it was a line. Beautifully beaded all over! Very victorian looking! I have it all packed away saved for a daughter (or granddaughter)!
I wore my mom's dress...she got married in the 80's but the dress if originally from the 1950's. She purchased it from a vintage shop. I had the long sleeves taken off and the neckline changed.

I had a classic ballgown cut. Strapless with beading on the bodice and tiers (or ruffles) on the skirt and a pink sash.... When my mom picked it out and begged me to try it on I was like "No, Mom! That is so ugly!" and it turned out she picked the perfect dress for me :-) I guess sometimes Mom really does know best!

This was my dress. It was one of the last designs by Oleg Cassini before he dies I think.
I knew I had to have something with color and did not want to pay for designer but oh well. I fell in love with it. I still take it out and look at it. One day I hope to make a christening gown out of it.
Here is my dress, I ended up getting my second choice dress and sometimes regret not getting my first choice. The top was all beaded and had a waist band and I had a broach on the front of the waist band.
Here's a better picture of the bodice, not a great one of me. lol
We had a civil marriage in a town office in Germany (with friends and family attending); I wore jeans and a beautiful, low-necked, baby-doll style white sweater. Then, a-year-and-a-few-months-later, we had an outdoor wedding in the US of A and I wore a "spun gold" dress that was sort of between and a-line and a ball-gown, with gorgeous multi-coloured embroidery and a longish train. Loooooooooved it. Who says you can't wear a formal dress or have a train at an outdoor wedding??? Ordered it two days before it was discontinued. And about 3 months before we were even engaged
