So the day before I started my new job - I actually took my pregnancy test and tada got my BFP!!!
Now in the midst of my third week of work I find myself ready for bed after just an hour of being at my desk.
Being that I am on a 90 day intro cycle (probationary period) I am not telling my bosses that I am pregnant - DH is too nervouse that I will get canned immediately since that was a Vegas thing to do. So the silence has been kept within the boss realm. I havent been able to enjoy this job yet since all I think of all the time is sleep or the lack of coffee that I am depriving myself of. (by the way I used to drink up to 8 cups a day - now zero)
I am completely weirded out by the lack of control of my body being that this is our first - my boobs are huge and sore as hell - my pooch is already looking a little out - not quite a bump though - my emotions are all over the place and I am moody - one minute Im so happy then the next I flip out nervous.
Any suggestions on how to handle this? Have any of you had a similar situation with dealing with the start of a first pregnancy and a new job at the same time?
Re: Sleepy all day and working
I started a new job about a month before my BFP. And then because of some budget issues, that contract ended and I started another new job around 20/21 weeks.
Not being harsh... but you are just going to have to suck it up. If you need to work, then the best thing you can do is to remain as professional as possible. Maybe try to make self adjustments to counter the symptoms you are having? I thankfully did not have many symptoms and no M/S. But I had to have even more lists to ensure I wasn't forgetful.
And I was exhausted during my 1st trimester especially. I would bring my lunch to buy myself time to take a 20-30 minute nap at lunch in my car. I have still had to do this even into the 3rd trimester some days.
You'll make it.
Congratulations! This is my first pregnancy too, though I've been in my job for a while that when I finally announced to my team that I was pregnant (at 13 weeks) everyone was thrilled and the fear of being let go (though we know this isn't legal) never entered my mind. I also didn't start to show until weeks after my announcement (I think around 15-16 weeks) that I was able to cover it up with layers (a little hard for you to do now that summer is coming but maybe you can find some clothing that can help prolong your announcement).
I do recall reading a few bumpie postings that had started a new job and then found out they were pregnant and their boss took the news better than they originally thought. I wish I had some great advice for you besides, try to stay calm, don't feel rushed that you need to tell your boss or co-workers until you're ready and in the end you really don't have control over how they will react to your news. I look forward to reading your update when you finally let them in on your secret. Good Luck.
Delivered 3 weeks and 2 days early via emergency c/s due to pre-e
congrats! I got my BFP less that a week before starting my new job. Luckily I'm working for/with my 2 BFs and they knew we'd been trying for a year but I still tried to hide it from them as long as I could be they caught on pretty quickly lol
As for being so tired, I hear ya! I keep hearing the 2nd tri is better so my fingers are crossed that I'll have more energy.
I guess just do your best and keep resting when you can, hope it all works out well for you!
