NBR Poll: If you could live anywhere in the US..

Where would you live? Not taking the location of family/friends into account. I'm just wondering which states/cities are appealing to others. We have the option to move within the next couple of years, and can basically go anywhere with DH's job, so I'm starting to do a little research.

This was actually my first suggestion! DH is turned off by SC's lack of professional sports teams.

  • The Northeast Corridor - I would be very happy from Washington, DC (including Arlington, VA) all the way up to Maine. That does not include any part of PA, though.

Washington, DC is my dream location. I've been begging Charlie to let me transfer there for a while, now, but cost of living makes it somewhat prohibitive.

    I'd also seriously consider Seattle.

    That's really about it.

  • Cincinnati! No kidding. I've lived a few places and Cincinnati is still one of my favorites. I feel like the cost of living here really does allow me to enjoy what the city has to offer, even if it has less going on than bigger cities. When I lived in Chicago I didn't enjoy it because it was so freaking expensive. And, I hated the traffic.

Honestly though, I think I'd move to Europe if my family weren't here.

  • I lived 8 years in TN and I really loved the Nashville area. However, I am a Pittsburgh girl at heart.

Charleston,SC or Savannah, GA are beautiful and I loved visiting there.

For midwest, I like Indy or St. Louis

  • That is a good question as we will move again in the next couple of years and we talk about this all the time. I think I would like to live in Austin, TX, San Diego, or Tampa, FL.  I like warmer climates and the beach to much to live in the Northeast again.
  • South Carolina by the beach:)  or Washington DC

  • VA or NC, I lived in southern VA along the coast for 4 years as a child and loved it.  Great weather, tons to do, within driving distance of lots of places.  I would move back in a heartbeat.  I am also really interested in history and so much happened around there, tons to go see.
  • NC.  But more near the middle or beachie areas not in the mountains!

    Anywhere along the Gulf Coast

  • To be honest, I'm not sure. There are many places that I love visiting; however, living there is another story. COL is a big deal to me, especially considering neither DH nor I will ever make big money. That said, I wouldn't want to live ANYWHERE that I couldn't afford my family a relatively comfortable lifestyle (of course, that means different things to different people).

For instance, I wholly agree with what mag said. While we love Chicago (and have family there), our life would be COMPLETELY different if we lived there. DH grew up there, yet much prefers the balance of urban/country living that the tri-state area provides.

  • I lived a few dif places...

I would say TN is prob my #1  pick.  Then Charleston SC  #2 then some place in GA.

Ditto. For the natural beauty, it's our favorite region to visit. I think I'd enjoy living in one of the small towns outside one of the parks like Moab if we didn't have to worry about making much income. DH would be a very happy man if we lived out there. It's a giant playground to him.

YES! Also Monterrey or Carmel, Ca. Love it there beautiful... But its expensive as heck.. we probably would have to rent our entire lives!
