Did you get pregnant while breastfeeding?

Hi Ladies! I posted this on the August board but thought you might have experience with this too - I know it's a little early to be planning, but we hope to have our little ones close together and I am just curious if any of you were bfing when you got pregnant again? Did you have to wean or cut back on feedings before you began o'ing again? From what I have been reading, it seems like this is what is recommended in order to begin having regular cycles again?Thanks so much!

I did! We never cut back or began weaning (my DD still nurses a LOT). I also never got a PP period. I felt like I was O'ing even though there was no AF, so I began charting/temping since we were wanting to ttc. Temps showed a definite O day, so we had sex that night and got a bfp on Christmas Eve! It's definitely possible, but every body is different.

This. I wasn't sure if I was Oing or not but I wasn't weaning and didn't get a PP period. I got pregnant in March 09 and then miscarried and then got a second BFP just before our DD was 11 months. Now I have 2u2!

I got pregnant while EBF but I had one PP AF. I had AF when DD was 6mos old and got pregnant the next cycle. You don't always need to have AF to be o'ing though.

DD was 12mo and I had cut back to BFing twice a day. I had gotten my period back about 5 months before.

I did, but I got my period back at 3 months postpartum. I was still breastfeeding (or pumping) 4-5 times a day when I realized my period was a week late. Oops.

I did not get a period while nursing. As soon as I cut back and started weaning I got my first (and only) period.

I am EBFing my DS now and haven't had a period yet (though, I have a Mirena now, so I don't know what will happen when I wean). I think that FOR ME it would be pretty darn hard to get pregnant while EBFing... But anything is possible I suppose!

Yes...while EBF and on BCP! I was a super ovulator as my doc put it!

Yes - got my period 6 months PP while DS still breastfeeing ALOT. Got pregnant on my 2nd cycle. But I know lots of people who did not get periods until 1 year PP or until weaning so hard to know what your body will do.

I started weaning in December 2010, when my DS was 1 yr, and got my period in December, then I got pregnant in January!

I got AF back at 9mo, at which time DS was still nursing, but had also started eating quite a bit of solids. LO#2 was conceived 3 cycles later, when DS was 13mo, and still nursing 2-3x a day.

Yes, I did get pg while bf.

I did not cut back on any feedings. I still feed on demand.

First AF was 7 weeks pp, then again at 5 weeks....and about every 40-30 days later. I EBF until 8 mths...then supplemented with one bottle of formula a day....I bf until 11 months....and got pg 1 week later!

We cut back on feedings naturally because DD started sleeping through the night more consistently around 7 months, at 8 months PP I got my period. I had two periods total, I think, and then got pregnant.

I have had friends get pregnant while nursing on demand and friends that couldn't get pregnant until they weaned completely and then we have had friends that are somewhere in the middle. I think everyone is different and you just have to kind of play it by ear. If you aren't O'ing while nursing you might have to cut back.
