boobs of fire

image

Hooray for a trooper nurser. No really its unlike anything I've ever experienced and its amazing. It hurts like hell but totally worth it.

I did discover that this little girl will be a pacifier baby. She wants to suck all the time. But because of her early latching issues we are holding off at least a week so she doesn't get any type of nipple confusion. I'll survive this.

Other early May moms or BTDT moms, what have you discovered has helped you? I have the lanolin cream and some cold gel pads but my nips are still afire. Tips? Tricks? Just deal?

Re: boobs of fire

  • Use the lanolin before and after each nursing session. Constant!! It will help in the long run.  Some discomfort is normal, but if it persists, I'd seek out an LC to make sure you don't have any latch issues going on.

And don't hold off too long on the paci...I know they tell you about that nip confusion stuff, but in our case, my DS wouldn't take one and I ended up being his paci for 6 months. NOT FUN.  Start her sooner than later on the paci, IMO.

  • I agree with Lisa. Also when she latches make sure she gets areola too. Imo, pacifiers aren't a bad thing. Trenton takes his and spits it out when he doesn't want it. He still knows my nipples have the food :) Sorry for grammar bumping from phone

  • Ditch the Lansinoh lanolin and make sure you have either the Palmer's Nipple Cream or the Medela Tender Care lanolin. I personally loved the Palmer's. It's a world of difference from the purple-tube stuff. I also had a 24/7 sucker and caved and gave her a paci on day 3 or 4. I went with the Avent paci's which worked out well. No nipple confusion at all-she knew where the food came from!

  • Make sure that you aren't allergic to the lanolin.  It has wool in it.  I have had the worst ordeal with pumping. Also make sure that you don't have a yeast infection.  Were you on antibiotics after birth??  This could cause a yeast infection.  If you are still in the hospital I would definetely consult lactation.  Good luck.  I feel your pain.

I have medela at home. We forgot it. Sad I'm glad to know we don't have to wait a full week. I think she'll be fine as well but I didn't want to risk it. Maybe we'll try in a few days. Meaning like two.

  • All I can add to the good advice is that the pain will go away eventually.

  • I know I got so engorged with both boys nothing helped! I did the cream and it didn't really help. I have heard of the coolie packs a d how wonderful they are so maybe it is worth a shot! Breastfeeding is hard work!

  • Lanolin didn't help me.  I used to sit around with ice on my nipples.  Make sure she is latched properly.  If she isn't latched right, take her off and redo it.  A bad latch can really tear up your nipples.  Also let your nipples air dry as much as possible to discourage any yeast growth.

If you have persistent pain with nursing, make sure to get checked out for thrush or tongue tie.

  • Sorry girl. I hope you figure it out soon.
