Mommas of little boys: come in, please!

I know we have a bunch of mommas with little boys around here, so I thought I'd ask you this question: What do you love about being a mommy to a little boy?

The reason I ask is, we just found out that we're having a little boy and we're so excited.  I personally just have absolutely ZERO experience with little boys, and I'd love to hear your wisdom and love for team blue! :)

Re: Mommas of little boys: come in, please!

  • Where to begin?  They are awesome, their imaginations are unbelievable, the snuggles are the best, they are rough and tumble, but sweet and generous at the same time.  They are so high energy, but their Mama is their favorite girl so it is all worth it.  I love having my boys. Love it.

  • Thank you for this thread. We have lots of nephews and my DH is great with them. I'm not worried about him, but I'm a little worried about me- it's just so different. I'm so excited though. I feel like what's meant to be will be- and I'm meant to be a boy mama!

  • They're so much fun and love to explore (which is not good for mommy's heart). I love watching them with their dad, he lets them do way more than I do :)

I don't have to worry about them ruining a cutesy, frilly, dress.

    Mommy to three adorable boys!
  • Everything! Don't worry I had no experience with little boys when DS was born, either. I don't have a little girl to compare him to, but I can't imagine little ones are that different whether they are boy or girl.

  • i love having a boy, soon to be boys!  they like to play rough with their daddy's, but give sweet snuggles to their mommy's.  ds always asks for me first when he's hurt because he just wants my hugs.  he is very aware of my feelings and doesn't like when i'm upset, loves to make me proud, and does whatever he can to make me laugh.  i can't imagine life without a little boy in my life.  they rock!

  • I've always got a lunch date ;)

I love having a little boy. He's always trying to mimic his daddy, which often means he tries to kiss me with his mouth open... I think boys are a little less fragile than girls, I love to tickle him and chase him around. We have so much fun together. DS is a miniature version of MH, and I love that.

  • I have one of each and love them both, but DS is the sweetest thing ever...although he is constantly in my dh's back pocket and loves to do everything with his dad, he is constantly telling me he loves me, I look pretty, I smell good, he loves to cuddle.. He just thinks differently too. He is a real problem solver, you can see his brain working and he has always been this way. The bad part is he barely ever plays with "toys" he is more about "doing" things so we have to keep him entertained. He would much rather be exploring, taking a walking, building something outside than playing with any toy...Boys are awesome!

  • Great thread!

I always loved the thought of having a boy -- but now that it's a reality, I do find myself getting nervous about it once in a while because of my lack of experience.  But the answers here so far are comforting :)

  • I have one of each and I have to say - they're different in many ways, yet similar in many others.

With my DS - we now know any restaurant that has a buffet or really fast service (he hates waiting).

He has an incredible imagination and loves to roll play with his hotwheels, or super heros (even if it is to rescue his sister's Barbies in the bath).

My DS also loves to play dress-up and play with toy babies.  He loves to push a stroller and take his baby for a walk, or give it medicine (he has an older DD too and these are things she enjoys but he will play this by himself too).

DS loves to be outside and working/kicking a ball/gong fo a walk.  When he's inside, he loves to help cook, bake, play board games, and read a book and have a snuggle.

  • I LOVE having a little boy!! He is so much fun. Boys are definitely very busy...VERY busy:) but DS always takes time to cuddle. My favorite time of the day is when he wakes up from his naps and just wants to cuddle with his mama. He is so sweet. Always hugging everyone. I love (like pp say) watching him with DH. It is so cute to watch him try to mimic him.
  • One of the best things for me is knowing that for right now, there is no other person in the world he loves more. He tells me everyday how much he loves me, and he wishes he could marry me, lol. His imagination is out of this world. He is also very low maintenance. He's not picky about his clothes, and I rarely have to do anything with his hair to look presentable. He is also fiercely protective of me and only me. He's my little man, and I adore being his mommy.

  • Being a mother to DS has been the best thing to ever happen to me. We are always outside exploring and learning new things. We like to study different animals, bugs, plants, etc and go on nature walks to discover even more. He melts my heart each time he looks at me and tells me I'm his favorite girl. I'm so happy to have the opportunity to raise him into the man that he will become someday. You are so lucky to have this opportunity as well. It is truly amazing Big Smile

Exactly!!! I have several of these pictures of the boys and Mommy is the camping type so I got them into camping. Daddy hated the idea so without mommy they wouldn't have known what they were missing and Daddy now loves camping too. I have ALL these boys running around and they all love Mommy like she is their princess for sure. PP poster said they are in touch with our feelings and I can't agree more. I will be sick and they just know what mommy needs. My oldest will let the "crew" know mommy needs a little nap and to keep quiet and play in the room. They know when I'm throwing up..lmao, they always yell out "Mom, you ok in there?" They hold your hand and get's jealous when daddy tries!! They are perfect!! I can't imagine what it's going to feel like having a girl. I just know Daddy is waiting patiently for his Lil girl to spoil and yes Daddy already lets the boys get away with a lot more then mommy does!!

  • Wow...thank you all so much for your responses!  It's clear how much you love those little boys.  And it's so cute how pretty much all of you said that your sons worship the ground you walk on and love to cuddle.  Can't wait to be my little boy's mommy! :)

  • I know how you feel - I remember looking down at my little boy bundle when he was born wondering how I was going to be a parent to such a strange breed!

That said, my DS is awesome ... He is as rough and tumble as they come, and is always figuring things out.  He loves exploring, "fixing things" and throwing balls.  Honestly, toys don't compare to a ball and the backyard.  He is a loud, crazy kid whose daddy is his hero.

But at the same time, when he sees me he runs over with his thumb in his mouth for a snuggle.  He loves to be "softed" and sung to ... he melts my heart!
