Heating breastmilk?

We are starting to register and I was wondering if you can use a bottle warmer/steamer to heat breastmilk?  I know you can't put it in the microwave, so just wondering... Thanks in advance!

  • Honestly, skip the warmer. We had one given to us, and it would overheat the milk SO easily if we weren't right on top of it all the time. We quickly ditched it and just used a large mug of hot tap water to heat the bottles. Yes, it took a minute or two longer, but I never had to worry about overheating the milk and having to toss it.

  • I love my Dr. Brown's bottle warmer.  We used it quite often at home.  When we travel to our families' homes, we use the mug method.  The sitter also uses the mug method.  I recommend a bottle warmer if you are going to be using bottles often.

  • We just use hot water from the coffee machine to heat bottles.  We use a bottle warmer in daycare and it never heats it the same even if we always pour in the same amount of water.  It's pretty annoying.  We also use Playtex drop ins, which cannot be used in a bottle warmer.
  • I would also pass on the warmer. I use the mug of hot tap water or when the weather is warm I sometimes would put thebottle between my boobs to warm the bottle. kind of weird I know but it worked well when I lived in Hawaii.
