I'm continually learning- LO's soft spot

Today I saw it pulsating for the first time and started shaking and was about to freak out. But it's normal. Somehow I missed that they can sometimes pulsate- and sometimes you don't see it happen for the first few weeks, so I just saw it happen for the first time today.

If it's sunken, it can mean dehydration, and if it's full, it can mean meningitis ... but pulsating w/ heart beat is normal, as there is a vein there.

Just thought I'd share.

  • Interesting. I can't see mine because of all of his hair, but I like random facts :)

Awww- I see the full head of hair in your siggy pic! I love it! :-)

  • I noticed this on my LO the other day. Surprisingly, I didn't freak out and just assumed it was normal.

  • I saw this 3 weeks ago when I put a bow in her hair... I stared and figured it was normal.  But, still weird.

  • It can pulsate?!?  Thanks for the heads up.. I haven't seen this yet and probably would have freaked out a little if I had seen it without knowing what the deal is.

  • I just saw this last night! I was rubbing his head while feeding him and noticed it. I was a little freaked at first, but then when I watched it for a minute I realized it was pulsating with his heartbeat and figured it was fine. Thank goodness for our HUGE APA encyclopedia to put my mind at rest.
