PP Exercising

Sorry for all of the posts today, I haven't been on in a while and there are so many things I want to post about!

How long did you wait to exercise after you had your lo? I had a vaginal delivery and on the discharge instructions it said no sex or exercise for 6 weeks... but I REALLY want to start doing something again as soon as possible. I am feeling good now at 2 weeks pp, but I think next week I could probably exercise comfortably. How long are you waiting to exercise after delivery?

Re: PP Exercising

  • I waited the full six weeks. You want to make sure you heal properly before you start exercising. If you REALLY can't wait, I would keep it to a very light exercise; stretching, yoga, etc.

  • Before 6 weeks I would stick to light exercise like walking with the stroller.

  • I had an extremely unenventful delivery (vaginal, no tearing, etc.) and was out walking with the Moby/stroller by 3 weeks. I'm at 5 weeks now and am DYING to go for a run, but am trying to wait until my 6 week appt. I know it's best for my body and too many things can go wrong if I'm not properly healed (even if I feel like I am). Not worth it, I don't think. I'll stick to walking! That being said, I power walk with the best of them :)

  • I started walking (not briskly just plain walking) 3-4 miles every other day at about 2.5-3 weeks. I just took it slow and listened to my body :)

  • My midwife told me at my 3 week appointment that I could start walking at 4 weeks and build up in intensity until 6 weeks, when I can start running.  I can hardly wait; I haven't really run since I did a 5k in December.  I had a vaginal delivery with an almost 3rd degree tear, followed by surgery for a tennis ball sized hematoma.

  • NSVD with 4th degree tear...my discharge said walk as tolerated.  I started with to the end of the block (day 5, 6), then around the block (day 7, 8, 9), then quarter mile, now up to 2 miles. I also started pelvic tilts/rocks for abs and childs pose. Start off lightly your parts are still out of place.  Good luck!
  • I've been walking with the stroller for the past 2 weeks. I have my pp appointment tomorrow (my Dr does a 1 month appointment instead of 6 weeks. No idea why.) It will be almost 5 weeks since delivery and I'm hoping that he will clear me to really exercise.
