Washing baby clothes?

I am getting antsy for our baby boy and was wondering if it's too soon for me to wash his baby clothes. He is due July 1.  I am only wanting to wash those clothes that were hand-me downs or bought at consignment sales. Don't worry, I am not washing any clothes with tags, and I have baby safe detergent. I am just wondering if I can wash them now and have them ready, or if I should wait until closer to delivery. Any suggestions?

Re: Washing baby clothes?

  • I don't see why you can't wash them now. I already washed a load of NB and 0-3 clothing, as well as some blankets.

  • I'm planning on washing it all tonight :) hubby is gone and I have no energy to go anywhere so i'll be nesting all night and folding little shirts and pants :):) I''m super excited about it too!

  • I was actually JUST going to do a load tonight! I want to be prepared as possible. I also will just do the hand me downs and consignment stuff (and the stuff I *may* have been buying on clearance over the years in anticipation of this baby) and the sheets for the cradle. Probably a blanket or two if it will fit.

I don't think it can be done too early as long as you keep it all in a clean place separately from everything else. Happy washing! :)

  • I washed everything last weekend.  Why do they put so many damn tags on baby clothes???

  • I've already washed everything without tags and either put it away in the dresser or hung it up.  I am waiting to wash the crib and bassinet sheets until closer to my due date, though, because if I washed them now I'd be worried about dust and just have to wash them again.  I do already have them on the crib, though!

  • I washed everything Monday & Tuesday that I am going to for now (blankets, mattress pads, sheets, changing pad cover/clothes)...may have some to wash after my showers though! Wink
  • With my first, I don't think I washed anything until my baby shower which was at 36 weeks.  I am having a garage sale next month so I am going to start going through the many bins in our garage and I will probably start washing clothes.  There is no reason why you can't wash the clothes now.

  • I plan to start washing everything as soon as DH puts the last coat of paint on baby's dresser and brings it inside from the garage! Right now the clothes are all sitting on the changing table shelves, and I'm afraid they'll just get dusty after I wash them.
