Parenting after a Loss

Almost lost my shiznizzle today in Target

So normally when I take DS out with me, he's super well behaved. He either snoozes or fiddles with whatever is attached to his car seat.

Until today.

DS screamed himself purple at Target after about 10 minutes in the store. I was so shocked I didn't even know what to do. I ended up taking him out of his car seat. I had to shop one handed and hold him with the other.

What do all you mommas do in situations like that? Do I be that mom that ignores her screaming child and continues to shop while annoying all the other shoppers? Do I snatch and run and leave my full cart in the middle of the store? Do I have to learn to shop one handed?

I honestly wish I had friends or even family (I can't believe I'm saying that) to help me on days like today. Confused

Re: Almost lost my shiznizzle today in Target

  • In all honesty...Unless one of my kids gets hurts...lol...I'm usually the mom who ignores her screaming child.  OR I talk to him and tell him theres no reason to scream.  I'll sometimes grab a toy that is small on a shelf and let him hold it around the store...but not buy it.  If there's not a reason to scream...I usually ignore it or it becomes a habit : (

Yeah, it had occurred to me I should've used my Ergo. I did that at the grocery last week and it worked pretty well. However, my hormones are still all screwed up and DS made me sweat something crazy.

  • Depends on the age of the child. At two months I would have pulled him out, checked his diaper, bee-line to the dressing rooms to nurse, continue shopping. That plan would still make him happy actually ... But now that he is older he does not need to eat the instant he senses hunger .. Newborns want what they want. When they want it. Sorry the little guy made you sweat. Grocery store meltdowns are the worst

  • I've shopped many times one handed!  If I remember I'll bring the Bjorn.  He loves to face outwards and people watch while I shop. :)
  • My DS always loses his mind at target. I've left lots of full carts :(

  • DD loves to shop, but only in her Bjorn. I would've done what you did and if that didnt work, left the cart and gone home. Sorry your outting was spoiled.
  • Thanks, ladies. My DH was of the opinion I should've left the cart and taken him home. Confused If I can remember the Ergo, I'll try that from now on. Just have to remember to wear lighter clothes so I'm not a sweaty mess with a kid strapped to my chest. Stick out tongue
