When did pics with the Easter Bunny become a "thing?"

Obviously, pics with Santa goes years and years back.  But only in the past few years have I noticed malls doing photos with the Easter Bunny.  Personally, I have yet to see an Easter Bunny that didn't give me the heebee jeebees.  Probably because I don't like clowns and it reminds me of that for some reason.  Are pics with a Turkey next?

Re: When did pics with the Easter Bunny become a "thing?"

  • I shouldn't say anything because we got our pic done with the Easter Bunny at the mall but... It's anything to make a buck! I'm even a photographer and I paid to have these done.. They turned out cute and I cringed at the price but I felt like I would regret not doing it.. blah.

  • I don't think it's a new thing. I have pics of my brother and I when we were little with the Easter Bunny. Maybe you just now started to notice it? Or maybe it's a regional thing?

  • omg I could not agree more.  at least with santa you can see the man's face.  the easter bunny thing creeps me out.. not only do you have NO clue who is under there but I think most of the bunny costumes, themselves, are creepy looking.

I can sorta see why people do it, but it is NOT for us.

  • ha ha ha...you must be seeing the Donnie Darko bunny then!

Well I took pictures with the Easter Bunny in the 80's and ever since I can recall the Easter Bunny has been around the malls in this area.  I bet if you get a turkey costume and rent a concession stand in the mall you'd make some good money doing that. You'd have cash for the holidays!

  • I've never done DD's pics with the EB. Creeps me out. But I will confess that she has written to the EB the last 2 years and so she always gets a letter back from him.

I love that movie! I remember when I was about 4 years old the Easter bunny came to my daycare. I had such an awful nightmare about the Easter bunny that night. He was trying to eat me or something.

Yup, I have pictures of me and my siblings with the Easter Bunny and that was probably 30 years ago.  It's not new but clearly it's not as popular as Santa.  Agree that the Easter Bunny is crazy looking - ours was a female with glasses!  But...I still got his pics taken with it :)

I'm in my 30s and my mom has pictures of me with the EB.  I wouldn't take DS out to get pictures with the EB, but his daycare had a photographer come in, so I did opt to buy those.  Not so much for me, but because my mom and mil will really like having them.  It was $20 and we got 4 photos, one for us, each set of g'rents, and the great-g'rents.

Plus, I regret not paying for newborn photos - I originally thought they were a waste of money and now I wish I had some - so I don't want to regret not getting other photos.

LOL.  I don't think it's a new thing, but I do agree that most of them are super creepy looking.  I have an issue with people in costumes in general.  It just freaks me out like no other.  And I don't like clowns either.

  • Um I think all people who wear those creepy suits are creepy people underneath. Yikes. And their big fake eyes scare me. Lainey will never go sit in an Easter bunny's lap if I have anything to say about it (which I do)!! : )

  • The Easter bunny creeps me out. I don't like people in full costumes.(Santas with fake beards included). That being said, DS1 has had his picture taken with the bunny every year except this year. I'd rather get their pictures taken with actual rabbits which is what we did this year.
