2nd Trimester

How long are you on your feet?

I have the lovely joy of being a manager in retail during my pregnancy during the holidays. Its already started to get busy and I'm on my feet for 8 hours a day with limited breaks. Oh so much fun...

So my question is how long are you ladies on your feet on a given day? I know I should sit "when I'm tired", but I'm trying to avoid getting to that point and get into a rountine. Wanted to see what you ladies do. Thanks!

Re: How long are you on your feet?

  • I teach 1st grade and don't feel like I'm actually on my feet all that much, definitely less than half of my workday.  When I feel tired or my feet start to swell, I plop onto my computer chair and scoot around the room.

  • I'm a nurse's aide and work 12 hr days. I try to take a sit break every 3 hrs. During my last pg, the farther along I got, the more breaks I had to take. Also, try using the compression stockings to keep from getting varicose veins.

  • I am  teacher as well and try to spned at least half of every period in my directors chair at the front of the room.

My parents own a retail store and this is the first holiday season I will not be working for them.  I really feel for you, I know how long and hard the days can be.  Get some comfy shoes and a massaging foot bath.  Good luck!

  • I sit at a desk all day. I hate sitting all day long, because it reaks major havoc on my back. But, I used to work as a supervisor in retail for 5 years. I would not wish that on anyone, let alone someone who is pregnant. I feel so badly for you. I hope you are able to take more breaks, though I know how hard that is, especially during the Holiday season. But make sure you take good care of yourself, because in the end it will all effect the baby.

  • I'm a personal chef and am on my feet from about 8:30 to 3:00, depending on my day.  I do try to sit down for breaks every so often, and stop for 10 minutes or so to eat lunch.

  •  I run a restaurant, so I was on my feet about 9 hours a day.  A little over a month ago, by the end of the evening, my belly would get extremely tight and my back would ache.  Now I sit down in my office for a few minutes just about every hour if possible.  That's annoying for me because I'm ansy and I love running around my restaurant, but it's not worth any complications.

  • I'm an occupational therapist and I'm on my feet 8-9 hrs a day.  I try to sit when I can and make sure I sit to do paperwork over the lunch hr (even if its only for a few minutes)  I've started wearing compression hose and "old lady" shoes for a little more support.

  • I work 12 hour shifts as a nurse.  Between lunch and a few breaks and occasional down time I'm probably on my feet 9 to 10 hours a day.  On slow days it's more, on bad days there isn't even a lunch.  As I get farther along I have to be very conscious about bad days because I get a lot of contractions with all the running around.  I don't fit in my compression stockings anymore :(
  • I'm also a retail manager.  I'm on my feet anywhere between 8-9.5 hours a day.  Then from Thanksgiving until Christmas I have to work 6 day weeks.  It should be fun I'll be in my 3rd trimester.
