Breastfeeding and STTN

LO has been sleeping 5-6 hour stretches during the night but last night she slept from 11:30 to 6:30 for the first time ever. Needless to say, I woke up and my boobs were rock hard and leaking like a faucet. Although I was extremely proud of LO, I was in a lot of pain. What do you do when your LO starts STTN? Do you have to pump during the night if LO sleeps or do your boobs eventually get used to it and adjust? TIA

YAY to LO STTN!!! I attempted to STTN while my LO did and it killed. I now wake up to pump after 4 hours of sleep. I was trying to get my body to adjust, but that caused some other issues. So I am sticking to pumping in the middle of the night for now. I will try it again once everything clears up.

They will adjust...lol my husband loves them in the morning now b/c they are still big but not miserable 4 me sooo he says they are his fake boobs that he didn't have to pay for, lol

YAY for STTN!!! Your boobs will eventually figure it out! Don't worry. But for now, if you wake up after a few hours in pain you can pump a little out to be comfy. But I wouldnt go crazy since that will signal your body to keep making milk and then your boobs won't get used to it. But yes those first few mornings its crazy...I think I washed my sheets like 4 days in a row.

I've been wondering the exact same thing! I have been waking her up at least every 4 hours or so, more for my comfort, but now that she is 4 weeks and gaining weight on track, maybe I'll see how long she sleeps tonight! The longer between feedings, the more I leak, so I sleep with an absorbent changing pad cover on top of my sheets covered with a small blanket to make it more comfortable...

They will chill out after a bit. Just be careful, cause DD started STTN 8 hours and I was full but ok , but then I got a plugged duct twice. If you feel that a certain side or spot on your boob hurts more or has a lump, do some massage to work it out. Now I'm trying to wake up in the night to massage some of the milk out to keep things clear.

I would probably hand-express a little as opposed to pumping. It's a lot less work and will not tell your boob to make as much milk.

Your baby is young!! Your so lucky!! I have been pumping at 4am because I want to increase my freezer stash. If you do nothing the boobs will adjust after a few days, as PP said.
