washing all his clothes?

So I'm starting to gather all the clothes we have been accumulating for LO and I'm ready to start washing!!! yay!!! OK, why am I excited about doing laundry? lol anyway, my Q this: should I wash all of it or just the NB/0-3 mo stuff? We have gotten even 18-24 stuff that I am not washing right now, plus it's only very few items, but most of it is 0-12 mo clothes, what do you think, do all his laundry now?

Re: washing all his clothes?

  • with DD1, I washed all up through 6 months.  This time I washed all up through 3 months (due to closet space).

  • I just did NB up through 0-3 mos. I even left some of the larger 3 mos alone for now. I'm keeping tags on the older clothes to wait and see how quickly she grows and to make sure the warmer weather clothes are climate-appropriate.

  • I washed all the NB-6 months, and they are all put out.

  • I didn't even do all of the newborn clothes.. I did about half of the newborns and most of my 0-3m clothes.. I want to make sure he'll be small enough to wear the newborn for any length of time before I bother de-tagging and washing them.

  • I washed all hand-me-downs, sorted them by size, and put them in rubbermaids to be stored.  As far as new clothes I've only washed the newborn stuff.

  • one thing I screwed up with DD1.....with her larger clothes - she actualy outgrew quite a bit of them since I did not pull them out soon enough.  Just know that not all 6 month clothes will fit your 6 month old.  Some of them will work at 4 mth and some will work at 9 mth.

  • I washed everything. DH is hanging a second rack for clothes in the closet (it's really deep because it's over a stairwell). So the little clothes go in the front and the big clothes in the back. The 0-6 month onesies and pants go in a drawer and the 6-12 month ones go in a bin in the closet. Then I got some 18m-3year hand me downs (awesome condition- would have cost me about $500 new) and they are going in boxes in the storage room but have also been washed and sorted.

I figure I have the time right now, so why not?

  • I've washed hardly anything because frankly... people bought too many clothes.

I have about 8 onesies and 2 "out and about" outfits washed, the rest are sitting with their tags on because if she grows out of them too fast or there's just too many clothes, they're going to the used baby clothes store at a higher sell value.

As a friend of mine put it, "you got hit with having your first baby and it's a girl". That translates to people buying you clothes you don't want/need or even in some cases like Smile

  • I washed NB and 0-3. I have everything else hanging up/folded up and sorted by size, but I figured that I'll see how big he is and how fast he grows before I wash anything else.

I washed all his hand-me-downs and all the new stuff that I wasn't sure where it was from, up to size 3-6 months. The smaller sized new stuff that I do know where it's from will wait to see if he actually wears it.

  • I washed all of my newborn and up to 7 lbs clothing. I already know he is a super tiny bean so i haven't bothered washing the bigger stuff yet.

  • I got really excited and washed everything. I figure this way I won't have to remember what still needs to be washed. Also, we're planning on having more kids, so even if he outgrows them hopefully another kid will fit. And if we're not successful in having more kids, my friends are certainly fertile. Some baby at some point will wear them. :)
  • I would wash everything without tags just because I know I wouldn't be able to remember later what was and wasn't already washed. And the closet is huge.
