I have a backup emploee ready to take it but I have two small jobs tomorrow and was wondering, is it so painful that I will be completely unable, or do you think I can tough it out???

I had mine done today and honestly did not feel it at all. I have a doctor with very small fingers so I'm sure that makes it much more comfortable. I have had a few small contractions but nothing painful enough to stop me in my tracks yet. I hope my contractions get stronger as the day progresses. I have had no problem finishing off my day at work. Good Luck!

I would say work the jobs. After having it done with DD I was in a lot of discomfort and cramping, but I made myself go on walks to kind of keep it going. I could have worked through it. I woke up in labor the next day. I would think working would help keep things moving along.
With DS I didn't have any cramping afterwards (different dr and very different approach to sweeping the membranes), and I could carry on completely as before.
After my doctor did mine last week I bled for about 3 hours so be prepared... some people bleed, some don't. It was pretty heavy bleeding but the nurse said it was normal after what the dr. did. Just be prepared with a panty liner if you feel it coming on.
I had mine done with my first pregnancy at 39w 4d. My water broke 2 days later. I had some cramping that night and then nothing the next day.
And might not be a bad idea to have a heavy pad or two (plus a towel in your car to protect your seat) because a panty liner will not help if your water actually breaks
I would have a backup just in case. If you are close to labor, it could enhance the contractions and make things move along a little more quickly. Or like with my first, when the doctors swept my membranes, it tore a hole and i started leaking within the evening. A back up could never hurt.
I had mine done today also and it was painful when it was happening, and a little after. But it shouldnt keep you from doing your job. Its just a bit uncomfortable.

Good luck, you're in the home stretch.
