I don't have any sort of royal family obsession, but I do really like weddings. I was just under a month old when Charles and Diana got married, and my mom said that she woke me up early that day and got me changed and fed so that she could watch their wedding live--so I assume I "watched" it too.
Since I kind of saw Charles and Diana, I really want to watch William and Kate's wedding, which will be broadcast at 3AM (!) here in California. I also want to watch the arrival and some commentary, which would mean waking up at 2AM. I don't mind doing that because I'll just go back to sleep after it's over, but I still feel pretty silly. I guess part of it is that I am going to miss so many weddings this spring/summer (7 at last count)--including a cousin's across the country on April 30--because of restricted travel with the babies, so I kind of feel like this is one wedding that I can "see."
I know I could watch a rebroadcast later on Friday, but that doesn't feel the same. I told DH he was going to get to sleep in the guest room because no way will he want to wake up and watch with me. (He rolled his eyes but I don't think he minds.)
Is anyone else planning to watch the wedding live? Particularly on the West Coast? I'm insane, aren't I?
Re: Royal Wedding: I'm crazy, right?
I wouldn't call you insane but you're definitely on the opposite side from me. I personally don't get all the excitement and fascination with the royal wedding and pretty much roll my eyes when there's any coverage or hubbub about it on tv. That's ok though, I follow coverage of/am interested in/fascinated by things that I'm sure plenty of other people aren't.
So make some popcorn and enjoy!
I am totally going to watch it, but I'm on the east coast so really I'm just going to be getting up an hour earlier than usual. I don't think you're insane! Like you said, you can go back to sleep afterwards.
MH asked me if I'm going to make little hats for our dogs to wear and make them watch it with me LOL
Wow. I feel old. i remember Diana and Charles wedding and spent the next few weeks drawing wedding dress designs for all my friends. of course, they ALL had massive puffy sleeves.
I'm going to watch it, but i'm in Ontario so don't have to get up THAT early.
My mum is from England (I'm Canadian) and I think like many Brits, I have a love/hate relationship with the royals. I genuinely do like Wills though, I think he's a much more modern thinker and when I read that instead of asking for gifts from other countries they provided a long list of charities that they want donations sent to, I thought it was a classy move on their part. They don't need another room full of antiques (I think that's what Canada sent to Charles and Di...ridiculous waste of money!).
I'm going to watch as much as I can before I have to leave for work (I'm on the East coast but have to leave at 7am)...I would probably have taken the day off if it wasn't already my last day of work before maternity leave! I'm very anxious to see her dress...I had a dream that it had feathers on it!
I used to think Wills was a hottie. I have since moved onto Harry. I deffinatly have it schedualed to DVR...I'm not promising I will be up to watch it at this point. 4 am is about when I finally get to bed.
