2nd Trimester

Classified High-Risk Today...

So I went in for my 13 week "in-take" appointment.  The one with the NP.  She asks a whole bunch of questions and helps schedule the next labs/ultrasounds, etc.  She asked if I had any questions.  My only question really had to do with how I can better prevent pre-term labor (I was at the hospital 8 times before DS was finally born).

Initially, her response was that traditionally they do the "fetal fibronectin" test starting at 24 weeks.  Then, she went on to say that my doctor has a plan in place.  I get cervical length ultrasounds every two weeks, starting next week (14 weeks).  Then, I start progesterone injections at 16 weeks.  In addition, they will start the fibronectin tests at 24 weeks as well.

  • I had to get cervical length US with my son - it's pain but at least your doc has a plan in place and hopefully you won't deliver early!

Really? Interesting. I had cervical length checks via vaginal ultrasound every two weeks from 8 to 24 weeks and it was never painful.

    Good luck!

I'm guessing she meant "a pain"...I might be wrong though.

Sorry about that OP! But, like PP have said--at least your dr. has a plan in place!
