Just a quick question. I just got off the phone with my sister. We were talking about how paranoid I am going to be next pregnancy if we are lucky enough to get pregnant again. I have had approximately 15 ultrasounds thus far. First because we were having twins and now more due to the circumstances. I know that most usually only get one ultrasound. Have your doctors been more accommodating (offer more ultrasounds) due to your previous losses? I don't think I will be able to keep sane. I will have to start saving for elective ultrasounds!
Lost Lilah (Audra's twin) at 26 weeks. Cause unknown. Forever in our hearts
My doctor has an u/s machine in their office that they use for quick checks, and if I had to guess, they'd probably oblige if I asked for a quick peek at each appointment. I get doppler checks at each appointment which has reassured me a lot, but I know each woman is different with her comfort level.
My OBs (4 docs) know about my loss and say every time I am in that they will do whatever they can to make me feel more comfortable and relaxed. Honestly, it would probably be a dealbreaker for me if my OB was dismissive of my fears and worries.
bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
I got an ultrasound every week to every two weeks until we reached our loss milestone. I could have continued them, but I was trying to wean myself from the crutch. Granted, I own a doppler, and since my stupid DH packed it I have now gone longer than I ever have without it and am now freaking out.
BFP #1 - Twin B lost at 5w
Bryce Addison I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be.
Our baby boy was born sleeping on 9.17.10. He was 19w1d.
Thanks so much. That makes me feel a lot better. Glad to know they try to do what they can. ^ I would freak out without my doppler as well! However, I am sure it is making you stronger!

I had frequent u/s (and freely describe myself as a u/s "junkie") in the first tri. My last appt at 14 weeks was the first one with no u/s. I practically had DTs over it. But the Doppler check at that visit was reassuring as well.
My Dr has told me that she will agree to whatever I need to feel comfortable with this pregnancy, including frequent u/s or Doppler checks at my request. Like rvandiver, I am trying to get the u/s monkey off my back and not get one every time.
Unless I cannot stand it, or there is a problem, I won't have another u/s until our 20 week scan at the end of May...eeeeek!
Given your past history, I would hope that your practitioner did whatever was needed to make you feel comfortable.
BFP #1 5/2010 - Missed m/c at 8 weeks BFP #2 2/2011 Baby G welcomed with love and relief 10/2011 Surprise BFP 1/8/2013...say what? Baby A arrived 9/2013
My doctor's office (and pretty much everyone I know in this area - the North East) gives two standard ultrasounds - the NT scan at 12 weeks and the anatomy scan at 18-20 weeks.
With DD I ended up having 7 (or 8?) u/s due to spotting, lack of movement, pain, possible placenta previa, etc. Basically I had a bunch of extras due to potential problems and it was NOT worth it. I was actually just hoping for the two standard u/s with my next pregnancy because it would mean everything was just normal and boring. Then I had a m/c and because of that, I've now had two u/s already with this baby. I hope that I only have two more - NT and anatomy scans.
It's reassuring to see the baby, but as I'm sure you know, it would probably be really nice not to have anything to worry about in the first place!
In my situation (early loss), they didn't treat me any differently than they would anyone else. Not counting my ER trip, I'll have 2 planned u/s (one at 10-12w and the other the 20w one). My insurance also covered the NT, so I did that one too.
If I'd had a later loss or a previous twin pregnancy, my answer might've been different. Just from talking with my doctors, most look at late loss in a different light than an early loss (rightfully so). If you'll be going to the same OB, ask them at one of your appts. Can't hurt to know now so you can start saving for the elective u/s's!
My dr was very accomodating as far as allowing more ultrasounds than normal. I had three early ones and then the NT scan. Now I wont have one until the 20 week one, but I'm sure if I asked for one, she'd definately do it. I would find a dr that is willing to help calm your nerves.
TTC Since 2/09...
BFP 12/26/09 - Missed miscarriage (6 weeks), D&C 1/28/10,
BFP 4/23/10 - Miscarriage (18 wks 4 days) due to Turner's Syndrome, Delivered Lyla Ann on 7/29/10,
BFP 12/10/10 - Natural miscarriage (5 weeks 6 days) 12/23/10,
BFP 2/2/11 - EDD: 10/15/11 - Stick baby stick!!
My doctor told me at the very beginning they would always accommodate me with a quick ultrasound if it helped calm my nerves. This is regardless of any loss I may have experienced in the past. They have a portable machine in the office that they can use for a quick check. They just want their patients to be as calm and reassured as possible...one of the reasons why I love them so much.

I see my OB next week and we will discuss. We lost one of our twins during labor and my OB told me if we decided to have another baby, we could pretty much get anything we wanted. He would classify me as high risk.
My doctor said I could call and schedule a doppler check any time I needed it (I don't have my own). I took her up on it once, saw another doctor in the practice- when she could not find the heartbeat quickly took me across the hall for a quick u/s. They're happy to make you feel better, but in my dr office I don't think they schedule u/s checks, just doppler. But everyone there is very understanding!
