I am having trouble being content on what my 2 week old son should be wearing at night. He sleeps in our room, in a bassinet, however since our room is in the basment of our duplex it remains about 65 degrees (chilly to me). We began swaddling him, however Dad is better than I am and he often breaks free (even with the velcro swaddle blankets) since he likes to have his hands near his face. Last night I dressed him a long sleeved fleece sleep blanket, nothing underneath, but was concerned it was not enough. I am also afraid of him overheating. I checked on him constantly through the night to make sure he has warm to the touch on the nap of his neck. He was fine, but still felt like it was not enough clothing after reading on what to dress newborns in with a sleep blanket. What does everyone else think or use, especially when swaddling is not an option?
Re: Help! What to dress newborn son in at night?
We keep our house pretty chilly as well to others but to me it feels good, I'm very hot natured. We have been dressing LO in feetie pj's, we swaddle - even tho he breaks free, he likes his hands out as well. But it's part of our bedtime routine so it tells him he needs to go to sleep. But ontop of the swaddle I place another blanket about where his belly button is. This has always worked for us so far.
Your LO would let you know if he's too hot or too cold. He would cry to let you know.

footed sleeper pjs and a wearable blanket on nights that it gets colder. On warmer nights just the pjs.
Fleece is way too much for the temp in our house...everything I put on her is regular cotton not fleece.
Oddly enough the "ideal" temperature for a newborn at home is 68 degrees. It seems cold to me, which I love my house being cold, but I figured it was supposed to be warmer until I read about it. They also sell this little light at babies r us that changes color if the room is too hot, too cold, or just the right temp for baby, its pretty cute but might be one of those useless things but if your really worried about it I think it was $25.
If it is on the warmer side we do a snap t-shirt with a thicker swaddle blanket or halo sleep sack or swaddle me. But usually it always around 70 degrees here so we usually do cotton zip up feeted pjs, then swaddled with the aden + anias muslin swaddle blankets.
on warmer nights i just put him into a onsie and swaddle his feet (he co-sleeps in a bassinet that lays on my bed)
On cooler nights i usually put him in a gown with the little hand mittens over his hands and a light swaddle blanket. Or i use sleep sacks with onsies underneath
