Do you still give milk at bedtime?

Sorry if this is asked repeatedly but I never get to come on anymore.  Do you still or when did you stop giving milk right before bed?  We aren't anywhere close to potty training but I'm thinking we should go ahead and start weaning him off his bedtime bottle.  He wakes up soaked most nights...  TIA.

Re: Do you still give milk at bedtime?

  • When we switched to sippys we stopped giving milk right at bedtime. She gets milk/juice/water at dinner time and goes to bed an hour later.

  • We stopped bottles at age one, and now his last liquid intake is with dinner. We would have the same problem if he drank something right at bedtime.

  • DD1 hasn't had milk at bedtime since she stopped nursing at 18 months. Since then her last drink of milk is with dinner.

However, she has insisted on sleeping with a water sippy ever since she moved to her big girl bed at 27 months. At the time she had been daytime potty-trained for a month but was still waking up with a full wet diaper. By 30 months she was waking up dry, even with the nighttime water; now she usually wakes up once a night to pee.

  • Only if she asks for some.  Otherwise, it is just with supper.

  • From that time she gets home from school until bed she only gets milk. We give her a glass with dinner and then if she says she is thirsty we offer milk or water. She also goes to bed with a sippy of water and is fully potty trained. Something I thought we would stop if she was going to train overnight but she still takes sips and stays dry all night.

  • DD stopped drinking milk before bed when I weaned her off the breast. She never wanted it in a bottle or sippy cup at night if it wasn't "direct from the source." Perhaps related, she has been wearing underwear to bed since she was about 2 years & 2 months old.

  • I stopped a long time ago.  DD only gets milk with her meals and gets water or watered down juice the rest of the time.  She usually gets a cup of water in the evening after dinner, but she doesn't usually drink it.

  • I stopped bedtime beverages shortly after DD turned 1.

When she was 2 I cut off fluids after 7.

  • DD hasn't had a bedtime bottle since she was 14ish months old.

She normally has 4 oz glass of milk w/ dinner.  Sometimes water.

  • No, we give him his last drink at dinner.  My DS never had bottles at bedtime, so it was never a habit to break, I EBF and rarely gave him bottles.
