  The LC I work with is on staff with the hospital I delivered at.  I attended the breastfeeding class that the hospital offered (small cost).  She met with us a few times after LO was born (in the hospital).  I've also gone in for weighted feedings.  She answers questions by phone and email also.  No cost for me or for my insurance since she's with the hospital.

  I've heard if you get in contact with La Leche League they will send someone to the hospital to help you out if necessary, I'm sure you could arrange house visits too if necessary.  I don't think there is a cost of any kind.  You can access phone numbers of leaders in your area via their web site.

  My LC was located at the hospital where I delivered.  I didn't know what they were, but she came in to check up on me a lot during my stay.  She also allowed me to make appointments to check weight and weighed feedings at the hospital before DD's 2 week appt with her pedi.  The LC helped so much that I really hadn't had to consult one again :-}

  Definitely one thing I wish I would have done before having my LO - calling a LC or going to some breastfeeding classes to listen to stories/concerns, ask questions.

  I pretty much winged it and was very lucky and thankful that my LO was great at latching on from the start and was/is an efficent eater.

  For my next one I definitely will do all this before hand to help refresh my memory and ease the first month anxiety.

  My hospital had LCs but now I use the LCs at my pediatricians office.
