Bedtime calming lotion my asss.

DS screamed like he was being tortured. And I made sure it was room temp before I massaged it on.

  • Elyse used to do the same thing when I used to try to use that on her.   I had to literally wash it off her to get her to stop screaming!   I tried it again when she was a little older, same deal.

Needless to say - we don't use the purple lotion here =)

  • I was thinking the same thing. DD screamed like I was beating her...poor things!!!

  • Are they ok with regular lotions? Our DS is annoyed by the whole lotion part of the night routine, but doesn't cry. We just use the old fashioned pink J&J baby lotion. DH works for J&J, so we are well stocked!

  • That lotion is crap anyways so I don't even bother with it. The cream I use on DS is California baby. I only use it in his folds and on his face as he doesn't have dry skin otherwise. He doesn't particularly enjoy it though since all he wants to be is rocked and given a bottle at that point...he gets impatient.
  • Google johnson & johnson problems. Cradle cap, rashes, death by baby oil. Apparently the formulas now are different from the days when we were growing up. Scary.

  • DD is on and off about her lotions.  Last night she hated it and also decided sleeping was not for babies.  Smells great to me, though.  Maybe I'll use it before bed ha ha

This is Chelsea.  I like the smell, but it does nothing for her and sleeping.  I even got the bubble bath stuff.  This only thing it did for us was give her a mild interest in the bubbles.

  • My DH will put in on DS sometimes. It doesn't make him any better but it isn't hurting him either. He doesn't really like having it put on but then again he doesnt really like having his clothes off either. So I think it has more to do with his clothes being off then the lotion.

  • He might get used to it as time goes on. I don't think you need to use a "nighttime" lotion. It's more to do with the massage than the scent, although perhaps if you do it every single night, baby might associate the scent with bedtime. FWIW, DS used to scream his balls off when I put lotion on him after his baths but around five weeks, he started to enjoy it. Now he loves it. We don't use a scented lotion but it helps relax him all the same.
