I completely agree there are a lot of names out there that I find just boring. The only exception would be if they had family significance. I wont name any so that I dont offend any one
I love classic and old-fashioned names, actually, but I generally find names that were trendy when I was young to be very boring. Names like Lindsey, Britney, Ashley, etc. all seem to have no personality to me, but it's probably just because I know so many of them. Recently fad-y names also bore me a bit - Madison, Mackenzie, Aidan, etc.
It's actually my husband who has more of an issue with a name being dull or boring. I really like the name Jane. I've only known 2 Jane's. My husband thinks it's too plain and common. He has a problem with names being too popular since his name is Nick. He said he didn't like sharing his name with tons of other kids in their neighborhood growing up.
Yes, usually one syllable girl names or names that have been in the top 10 for years and years. I will name specifics because it is my opinion, and it is not meant to offend. Claire, Anne, Grace. Michael, John. I am sure there are more, but those are the 5 on the top of my list.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

Jacob, Michael, James, Anna, Kate, Jane.. names like that. They are all pefectly fine names and I do like them all, but they are rather dull. It takes a special person to make a name like those not dull.
I agree with PP: better boring than tacky!
ETA: As timeless as Grace is, it's probably #1 on my list of dull names.

Some of the trendy and more popular names are actually boring to me. Madison/Addison, Madeline, Olivia, Ella, Mackenzie/Mackenna/Makayla/other atrocities, Peyton, etc. They just don't feel very original, IMO.
There are some names, like my own (Anna), that feel kind of boring, but I see the appeal in the fact that they are used in many cultures. I've never been asked to clarify what my name is in any of the countries I've traveled to or lived in and I like the name's long history.
That said, what I find boring/dull is when an entire family sticks to these safe/common-type names. One Maria in a family is ok, but a Maria whose brothers are Juan and Jose make me think the parents really lacked imagination. To give an English example, I know a Jane whose sisters are Anne and Mary. Any one of those names alone is lovely, but all together seem kind of blah.
LOL. My name is Emily and this baby's name is going to be Claire. I guess we're just a big ol' boring family ;-)
I find middle names much more boring than first names - Marie, Elizabeth, Grace, Ann all just seem like a waste of a name to me. As first names I find them lovely, but they don't work as middle names for me.

Totally agree with you about middle names.
I couldn't care less if people think I like boring names. That's perfectly fine with me
Yes! I hate to say it though because many of the boring names for me are indeed quality names.
Michael
Christopher
James (we have like 5 of those in our fam... Jim, Jimmy, etc).
John (we have like 6 John's in my family... stop the madness!)
Lauren - lovely, just no "pop"
Katherine - like this name a lot and yet... I feel sleepy...
And like a pp said.. trendy/popular names lose their luster the fastest (or never had any luster at all).
I also agree with a pp that sibsets and family combo's can bring down a name or liven it up (a Maria among other interesting names could sound sparkling).
I feel the same way. For girls, I think Anna, Anne, Alice, Jane, and Elizabeth are alright names, but pretty boring. For boys, I find Christopher and Jackson pretty boring.

Re: Any names you find boring/dull?
Yes. Jacob and Emily come to mind. Perfectly fine names, but hello, top 5 for a billion years. Booooring.
That said, I'd take a Jacob or Emily over a Zayden or McKylynn. Better boring than tacky.

Yes.
Jane. Claire. Emily. Audrey. All scream boring.
I would still prefer those boring classics to overly unique names, a la Neveah, Jokinquisha etc.

I hate "Grace" as a middle name. So overdone....

Yes! I find Abigail, Claire and Emma horribly boring. Michael, Christopher and Alex for boys.
Names that get really popular I tend to eventually get bored of as well.

common girls names are boring to me, even some of the classics
Ann, Lynn, Marie, Jessica, Jennifer, Ashley, Katherine, Katie, Kelly...geez, i could go on and on!
For some reason common boys names appeal to me quite a lot. i love john, james, adam, andrew, alexander...
Any names I already know loads of people with
Sarah, Rebecca, Matthew, David
