I babysit two great kids. One is 3, one is 5. I am currently babysitting 2-3 days a week for 11 hours the days I watch them. The 3 year old I have all day and the 5 year old I get him on the bus at 7:45 and pick him up from school at 11. So this summer I will have them all day. And in the fall he'll be at school all day but the couple is having another baby in October. The great thing is I get to have my baby boy (5 mo) with me. So on average I work about 119 hours a month. I get paid 500$ once a month and that is even if I work more or less because she's a nurse and schedule is always changing. SO that is about 4.20 ish an hour. I know that is not very much esp for 2 kids. I also know I will need more watching them both all summer and a newborn in the fall. What is a reasonable price. Childcare around here is more than what I am getting. I love the family and I get along with the parents great but I am NEEDING to make more for my family. What would you charge? Thank you:)

Re: babysitting, what would you charge?!
I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
As long as I'm living my baby you'll be.

I can't tell you what I would charge, but I can tell you what I pay and what I get for that so you can see.
Two kids - both the same age, so there isn't weird scheduling things. I'm always home with the helper now, but when they get older she will watch them alone.
She does baby laundry, cleans bottles, plays with babies and vacuums the nursery and living room.
I pay her $15 an hour. She comes once a week for 4 hours to help out.
Wow. This is amazing to me. What I would charge is what I would when I was a nanny in grad school- $15/hr. I also pay $15/hr for my 4 month old. Granted, the cost of living in our two areas is probably vastly different. I would still charge AT LEAST $8/hour....especially since they're adding a third child to the mix.
It sounds like you do alot for their family and they are lucky to have you! Maybe think of a number, like $25/day for the first child, then $20 for the 2nd and $15 for the 3rd. So it sounds like they are getting a good deal. I also got paid weekly for however many day I worked that week.
thank you ladies I appreciate all the imput!
Also how do you put a pic on here that shows up in all your posts! I LOVE all the baby pics and I want to add one of my boy:)
We have a Babysitter for LO on Tues/Thurs. She watches LO for 16 hours a week a we pay her $600 a month. That's about $8.80 an hour. I asked a friend who is a Nanny in Indiana if that was a fair wage, and she said yes, that's pretty close to what she makes. I live in Greensboro, NC if that helps (sometimes location dictates cost). BUT keep in mind that you get to have your LO with you, so what you aren't making in salary, you are saving in your own cost of daycare...not sure if it's even though, you may want to look into that.
HTH!
