I think a year is plenty enough for people to get the baby weight off. Maybe not all of it but definitely a majority of it. After that it's just an excuse.
I have to say I agree. A pound a week is 52 pounds in a year. Unless you gained twice as much, you should be able to take the weight off fairly easily within a year with some diet modification and basic exercise. That being said... I am 6 months out and still haven't lost the weight. I am a student, I work, my husband is needy, I have 3 dogs and a crazy 6 month old. Those are all my reasons for not losing the weight, and DEFINITELY excuses.

What about platues? Hmmmm?
Well there is always an exception. Like Nadine said though, maybe not all of the weight, but the majority of it should be able to come off within the first year. However, I am not judging at all. We all saw my belly in the hot mess of a post below.

I agree with all of this.
Yes, a busy lifestyle can get in the way of dedicating time to losing it, but (as the PP wrote) - if you're being honest with yourself - those ARE excuses.
I've had several different women tell me that it usually takes about a year. Thinking back, I think it took my sister about 12-18 months. She ate healthy and worked out when she could, and she looks great now (her DD just made 2), but I do remember it taking a while, and she worked hard for it.
I'm still hanging onto 25 of the 50 I gained. I'm still bf-ing so I think that's good for 10 of those lbs to stick, but the other 15 are just because I'm too lazy to work out and I haven't gotten serious about my diet. Then again I ate what I wanted my entire pregnancy so...probably why I'm fat!
Yeah, but if you're obese it's easier to lose weight than someone who is not.
It's much harder for a mom in their late 30s/early 40s who maybe gained 40lbs but was an "average" weight pre-pregnancy to lose the weight.
I think it's easy to say that women should be able to lose it if you're young/have genetics on your side.
No, no. If you put your mind to it you can lose the weight. Trust me. I'm not being judgy or "condecending", I'm just being honest. Unless you have a disease or condition, you are just as capable as a 20 year old to lose weight.
Call me when you're 40.

Not to beat a dead horse but my MIL is like 50 something and can probably bounce a quarter off her abs. It can be done!
Sometimes it's okay to follow. (Picture is a clicky)

Yep, this. I lost it all, but I'm just shaped differently now. I do find that running 3-4 miles 4-5 times a week is helping a bit.
