I am getting ready to go to work for a 4 hour managers meeting, good times. However i thought i would start the day with a fun poll. How did u come up sith LO(s) name(s)? Family name, lottery, whatever. Lets here it ladies!!
Jacob is named after DH's grandfather. Its a Jewish naming tradition to use the first letter of the name of someone who has died. We just liked the name Peter. If he was a girl, he would have been Julia Elizabeth.
If our next child is a boy, he will be Daniel John. John is my brother and dad's name. We just like the name Daniel. If its a girl, her name will be Sara Elizabeth. Sara is a variation of my mom's name and Elizabeth is a family name on my side (mine and my mom's middle name, my great grandmother's first name, my cousin's first name).
We came up with Hayden from a website. someone on here, i think, had posted a site thst you put in your last name and it gsve you name combos. DH and i wrote down ones we liked and Hayden is one we agreed on. Matthew (his midfle nsme) is Dh's name.
There first names were names we liked but we had a really hard time with a girls name. I had to fight with DH to get Preston though! My mom suggested Jordana and it just stuck, especially since DH wanted Jordan but I felt it was too masculine for a little girl. Brady we just agreed on.
Middle names we agreed they would all come from my family since they have DH's last name. Preston middle name is Perry which is my brother who died in car accident in 2001. Jordana's middle name is Kathleen which is my maternal grandmother who I was very close with. Brady's middle name is Robert which is my maternal grandfather who died when my mom was 2. My mom was named after her dad as well but is Robin.

Connor's middle name is my FIL's name. I am Jewish and it is a big no-no to name after the living, but my DH is not Jewish and it was very important to him since Connor was the first grandson, so I got over it and went with it. Noah's middle name is my maiden name.
For this baby, if it is a girl (which I'm sure it is not.....), we have our own first name chosen and then her middle name will be after my deceased grandmother. If it is a boy.....NO clue We have thrown around some first names, but aren't even close to deciding on a name. For the middle name, I would like to do the Jewish tradition of using the first letter of a deceased relative. My grandfather was Herbert, so I would like to use an "H" name (I really like Henry....). We shall see!
Elizabeth is the only first name we could both agree on. Her middle name, Kathryn, is my Grandma's name (spelled that way) and is also in honor of DH's mom, Kathleen, who passed away before we met. (We already have a niece, Kathleen (nn Katie), so we went with Kathryn).
Our boy name was Benjamin Miles. Benjamin is a family name on my side and a name DH really likes. I picked Miles as an inside reference to our long IF journey.
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
Jones just came up one day and we love it with our last name. His middle name is Daniel and that was my brother's middle name. (He died 14 years ago this May). If Jones had been a girl, his middle name would have been Danielle. We have no other names picked out...DH was a big fan of Collette for a girl, I liked Simone and Elliot. It should be interesting when/if we have a second child!
Hannah and Joshua were both DHs top name picks. I remember him saying that he liked the name Hannah for a girl a few days after my ET with dd and so I knew that would be her name if we were pg and it was a girl. We liked the names and the meaning behind both of them. Her middle name is Riley which is my great-grandmothers maiden name and his middle name is Patrick which is DHs middle name.
Clomid M/C 8 weeks 2/08 *IVF #1-DD born 3/09
*Surprise BFP-T18 baby lost at 13w 1/10 *FET #1-DS born 2/11
I have always loved the name Graham, DH's family is Scottish and he wanted to use the Scottish spelling Graeme...it was the only name we really agreed on. Robert is both our grandfather's names so it was an easy choice for mn.
"Normal day, let me be aware of the treasured day you are. Let me learn from you, love you, bless you before you depart...let me hold you while I may."
D's middle name is after my FIL who passed away when I was pregnant. We flipped flopped with using Richard as his first name, but decided against it in the end.
It ended up being a toss up of Evan, Dylan, and Christian. H didn't like the initials of ERB, I could not get over Christian being too close to my name, so we went with Dylan.
Then one day I emailed something to H saying something like Dylan says hi. H immediately wrote back. I can not have a Y in a boys name, it just looks weird to me. So we changed the spelling to Dillon. Turns out that Dylan and Dillon are of two different origins and Dillon is more of my heritage (Irish) then had we gone with the Y (Welsh). So it all worked out and we were both pretty happy about the choice.
If he were a girl is would have been Eliana Rose - the meaning of Eliana is God has delivered and Rose was because of the prayer to saint Germain (I did the prayer before that cycle and a rose appeared on my rose bush in the middle of March, which in New England is pretty amazing)
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

DS's first name is my maiden name, I suggested it to DH before we were married and he loved it. His middle name is Ian, I just wanted something short since his other names are long.
We had a list of girls names that we liked and didn't pick it until we met her for the first time. It's funny to me to think of her as having any of the other names we had picked out. She is an Abby through and through! DH had suggested Abigail and when we saw that the meaning was 'a Father's joy' we thought it would be perfect. Her middle name is Christina which is my middle name and my Grandmother's name.
If we have a boy we will use DH's brother's name as a middle (Benjamin) and probably just pick a first name we like.

When I was pregnant with Paige, we were having the hardest time coming up with a girls name. We didn't like the other's suggestions. At all. Then I saw Paige on a top 100 list (it was #56 at the time), suggested it to DH, and he loved it! We both just liked the name Madeline.
Jack David
Jack is my mother's maiden name. David is my husbands name.
Braley James (pronounced Bray-lee)
Braley is DH's mother's maiden name. James is my dad's name.
The first name we just liked. We got a baby name book from the library, sat at a coffee shop and picked out 4 names we liked, and practiced Charlotte, and it stuck.
Her middle name we picked because she was born Dec. 23, and my sister was born Dec 20th and DH's sister Christmas Day, and they all share the middle name Elizabeth. So it is something they have in common.

Kate's names are both family names. Katherine is after my great Aunt who raised my mom and Elizabeth is after Alex's grandmother and two of my cousins.
We liked Calvin. When we told my mom, she mentioned that she once had a student named Callum (she's an elementary school teacher). We liked the fact that it was relatively unknown, but at the same time, not too out there. And we knew we wanted to use the nickname Cal.
ETA: We were team green and had a short list of boy and girl names and did not decide on one until the morning after Cal was born. The name seemed to fit him better than the other choices.
Middle name:
Family name.
Childhood cancer (DH) + chemo + radiation = 0 sperm.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).

Sara is a variation of my mom's name and Elizabeth is a family name on my side (mine and my mom's middle name, my great grandmother's first name, my cousin's first name).
This EXACTLY! My Jacob is named after my mother who passed away when I was 20 from Lung Cancer (not a smoker). Her name was Jenifer.. If Jacob was a girl we would have done a girl J name but didn't really look into any..I like Julia though..
If our next child is a boy, I am not sure what we will name him..I love Zach..but also love bibical names! If it's a girl we are doing Rebecca (Becca) or Liliana, I also love the name Ruth but DH vetos that one!
We always knew K would be Katherine if she was a girl. My husband's dad is deceased and apparently he always wanted a granddaughter named Katie. Katherine is a family name on my side and I always liked it, so it was an easy choice.
Also, the December before we conceived, we went to Macys after Christmas to look at the discounted holiday stuff. I stuck my hand into a huge bin filled with little ornaments with names on them and pulled out Katie. We both started crying, seeing it as a sign. We bought it then and there and conceived K in February.
I have been in love with the name Nora since I read Ibsen's A Doll's House in high school. It ended up being one of the very few names that DH and I could agree upon and was the one that seemed to fit best when we finally met her.
Her middle name is my last name. She has DH's last name.
My grandmother's name was Emeline...so we were going to use that. Then we found out that she HATED that name, so we couldn't use it.
I had always loved the name Caroline, so that was our top choice after Emeline. We had originally thought we would use Anna Caroline, and use it as a double name. But in the end, we chose Caroline Grace...just because we thought that particular double name was a little pretentious, and might be a pain for her later in life.
We chose Grace simply because is a beautiful, old fashioned name that went well with Caroline.
If this baby is a girl, she will likely be Sarah Anne...or Sarah Elizabeth.
If this baby is a boy, he will likely never have a name...boy names are HARD.
We just brainstormed names we liked. We did look at some family names, bt couldn't really find anything we loved . We came up with Vivian before we got married and it stuck.
Her middle name is Claire, which is my middle name.
Nicholas James: I grew up watching Eight is Enough and always said that if I had a boy his name would be Nicholas since I thought Adam Rich (who played little Nicholas Bradford on the show) was the cutest thing. So my son is named after a tv character. Plus it's also the only name DH would agree on.
James: my Dad's name
Ava Rose: After suggesting other names (Abigail, and Charlotte) and getting vetoed, I suggested Ava and held my breath. DH thought a moment and said "hmm like Ava Gardner. I like it" So DH thinks Ava is named for some old lady actress who is long dead. I just love the name.
Rose: DH deceased Mother's name.

My father passed away right when we started TTC. His name was Clement William, but he hated his first name. My grandmother had given him the middle name William, hoping that he would go by that, as it was her father's name, but the nickname that was popular for his generation (Bill) didn't go well with our last name. So he was Clem.
Also, William means "ardent protector" and to me, I think acting as a protector to your younger siblings is an important job for an oldest sibling, so it was an appealing name in and of itself.
So William Clement became a nice way to honor my father, but in a way he would have liked (ie not naming another person Clem) and gave him a name that was really meaningful to us outside of the family ties.
We used a big book of names, and a long car ride for each. same book for each. We didn't want to use a family name, we just wanted a name that would sound good no matter the age, and that we liked, and sounded ok being yelled really loudly.

I picked Miles as an inside reference to our long IF journey.
****LOVE THIS*****
I love the name Miles (it was on my short list for a boy) but had never thought about it in terms of IF. Love it!
Audrey's name is a nod to our IF journey. Her middle name is Faith, and that was chosen specifically for everything we went thought to have her.
I don't remember exactly what brought us to the name Audrey, but it had something to do w/ also considering Katherine and a discussion about the Hepburns.
It wasn't until one of my showers that I found out that Audrey means "noble strength."
Strength + Faith.... everything we needed to get her here
DH and I had picked out both a girl's name and a boy's name when we first started talking about marriage. My mom hated the girl name (and DH was just ok with it because I loved it). My mom loved a very traditional/popular name, which is totally not my style at all. When I told her we were going to start trying for a baby, she (jokingly) asked if she could have naming rights because she loved this particular girl name. I laughed and told her that DH didn't even get naming rights.
3 days later she went into the hospital and 2 days later she was in a coma, fighting for her life, requiring major surgery to try and save her. Before she went in to surgery, the family gathered around her and I promised that if she made it through surgery, our first daughter would be given her favorite name. She made it through the surgery (miraculously the doctor said) but she passed away a few hours later. That night, DH and I decided to give our first daughter the name my mom had picked out (and use my mom's name as a middle name).
That's actually why we found out what we were having... as much as I would have been thrilled to have a boy, I really wanted a little girl so that I could use the name. Everyone cried when we found out that we were having a girl. Although I never liked the name we chose, I love it now. Our only problem is picking out an equally special name for our second child!
My only request was that we choose a Biblical name and one that has some significance in its meaning. So DH and I googled "Bible Names" and we didn't get very far down the list for girl names - Abigail. It means "Father's Joy" so of course my husband immediately loved it, as did I.
Her middle name is a Korean name given to her by her paternal grandparents, as is tradition. It means "kind, gentle-hearted person". Loved its meaning as well. :-)
After 5 years of TTC, 3 IUIs, 5 IVFs, 2 FETs, multiple losses and an adoption that wasn

I'm so sorry for your loss, but what a wonderful tribute to your mom. Your daughter will be so proud when she hears the story behind her name.

First, we tried the family name route, but didn't really like any names from both sides (one from his side, one from mine). DH actually picked Claire from a Gilbert O'Sullivan song. I picked Piper as her middle name because it was a name that DH and I agreed we both loved. We thought about Piper as her first name, but I didn't think it sounded very professional as an adult name.
On an odd note, my name and my brother's names are taken from family middle and maiden names (father side first name, mother side middle name). Had they switched it, I would have been named Ruth Fleckenstein H______ (rhymes with pencil). How HOT is that???

Agreed. That is very cool!
The joke on DH's side of the family is that they don't make boys (8 nieces and just 1 nephew between the five siblings), so even if we do try for #2 in the future, we may never get to use Miles!
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
We like Irish names and my name is very Irish (Deidre) so we wanted to stick with that. We both just like Liam, and my grandfather was William so it worked as Liam is the Irish dimunitive form of William. His middle name is Francis which is DH name.
Finn was a name I loved and sold DH on for #2. He liked Finnian as the long form so we went with that. His middle name is Dillon which was my grandmothers maiden name. Our daughters name was Agnes which was my grandmothers name. I was iffy on it being an old ladys name but grew to love it and it was important to me to have her named after my grandmother. We were going to call her Nessa. Her middle name was Keena which is my mothers maiden name. I like Family names for middle names.
Kira: A name we liked, we chose the simplest of similar ones
Frances: My grandmother, was going to be Grace for her mother but over half of the other 2007 girls I knew were Graces, don't love Frances but I liked it with Kira and I wanted to use a family name on my side -- it took me months to get used to Kira Frances over Kira Grace!
Elena: A name we liked, though we didn't decide until after she was born!
Cameron: For Cameron Indoor Stadium, since DH and I got to know each other standing in line for and during basketball games as undergrads from '93-'95 -- it was all we had in common at that point, so without it we likely wouldn't have become close friends

For my DS - before we were even married, we had agreed on a boy's name (the nickname). We both love football, and during the 2001 Patriot's season, there were like 4 players on the team with the same nickname (Ted/Teddy), and we loved it. We just had to pick a formal name - we ended up going with Theodore. Most of my family tried to talk us out of it, but my DS is such a Teddy now (and we love calling him Teddy Bear)! Middle name is my dad's middle name.
For DD - we had a list of 4 names (Lily, Madeline, Anna, Audrey) and couldn't decide. We decided to see what she looked like when she came out, but she didn't look like any of them. The first night we threw out a few more (Maeve, Lydia), but still couldn't decide. The next day, DH just left it up to me so I chose - Audrey. It was a good choice because at the time, DS couldn't say much, but he could say "Ada," and that is how he referred to her for the first 6 or so months of her life! Her middle name is DH's grandmother's name.
Per Jewish custom, we named after deceased people we wanted to name for. We had three people we felt strongly about naming for.
Alana - named for Glenn's father Alan. Anna - named for my grandmother Anna. Aaryn - named for my uncle Allen. We had a really tough time coming up with a third A name. My uncle's hebrew name was Aaron, so, I feminized it and I couldn't love it more!
We think her name is just perfect - named for who we wanted to name for and with names that we think are just perfect for those people!
Her hebrew name is Alitza Chana Aharona.
ETA - I forgot to say also that we chose Alitza (had to choose a hebrew name that started with an A, or A sound in hebrew) because it means Joy in both hebrew and in polish and, since our egg donor is polish-born, it felt right!
I had a list of about 30 names and DH narrowed it down to 2. We agreed from there.
James is my father's middle name and it would have been my name had I been born a boy. I loved that it had significance and look for middle names with family meaning.

Aaron is my DH best friend's name. We both liked it and we agreed on it. His middle name Tyler, I have always liked and we also agreed.
We never had any other choices for a boy because this was his name all along. Now if we ever have a boy again I don't have any more names picked out.
Agreed. That is very cool!
Davez wants to name our next kid "Cash" .lol.
The joke on DH's side of the family is that they don't make boys (8 nieces and just 1 nephew between the five siblings), so even if we do try for #2 in the future, we may never get to use Miles!
