Casey as a boy's name?

DH and I were going to go with either Grant Alvin of Levi Alvin for our son. The middle name is the only thing that is set in stone as it is in honor of a family member. Recently, however, I've been toying with the name Casey Alvin and I really like it. I know that this has become a unisex name but I still think of it as more of a boyish name. The way I see it Casey = boy, Kasey/Kaycee = girl. Maybe it's just because I've only known male Casey's IRL. What do you ladies think of Casey as a boy's name and the combination of Casey Alvin?

Re: Casey as a boy's name?

  • I think the Casey spelling is unisex but Kacie/Kasey is feminine. Honestly, spelling is half the battle. Hearing the name Casey will always make people think of it as  unisex or feminine. Its not masculine in an obvious way so it will be confused no matter what.

  • I like Casey for a boys name. (I like Grant a little more though)

  • I knew a male Casey and a female Casey growing up and I've always thought it was so terrible that (female) Casey's parents gave her a boy name. (Had a female friend named Charlie and thought the same thing too)

So I see Casey as a boy's name. Reminds me of Casey at the bat (not sure if that person was male or female, but biasly always thought boy)

I think Casey Alvin is just fine too.

  • I much prefer grant, but yes Casey is a boys name. I know 4 boy Caseys, all spelled this way. The 2 girls spell it Kasey

  • I have a good male friend named Casey. He's about 6'5" and was a college baseball player. I think it's a boy name. If it were not for him, I would  name my baby Casey. If you spell it with a K, people will be looking around for a girl. Im not a fan of Alvin because of the Chipmunks, but more power to you if you like it. It flows well.

  • I LOVE Casey for a boy.

Strongly dislike it for a girl and find it very dated (girl).

My brother is Casey Hunt. If #4 is a boy, he will be Roman Casey.

I think all of your combos sound great though :)

  • I think Casey is fine for a boy or a girl.  Honestly though, I prefer Grant.
  • Casey seems very nicknamey to me. My nephew's name is Case and his parents call him Casey or Casey-boy. If I were you, I would go that route. Case Alvin sounds like a nice combo IMO. I do, however, prefer Grant from the names you have listed.

  • First, I really prefer Grant.  That being said I went to elementary/middle school with two Casey's (both spelled this way) one was a girl and one was a boy.  They were both part of the same group of friends and people would always refer to them as "boy Casey" or "girl Casey."  This makes me think unisex.  That being said I'm not a fan of unisex names in general, but especially not for boys because of the behavioral issues they can cause.

  • Casey is a perfectly fine boys name.  I prefer Levi from your names, but I'm not sure I like it with your middle name and since that's set in stone, I'd probably go with Casey.
  • I always think of it as a boy's name. It's really nms and I like your other choices way better.

That being said, I named my DOG (male) Casey. LOL

  • I like Casey but I also like Grant.  Don't care for Levi.  If it were me I would probably go with Grant because it seems to age better.
