Our little princess surprised us with her arrival on 4/10. My water broke at 1am almost on the dot.
We came right into our local hospital, (after my mother and aunt arrived to take care of DS). They checked me over, and the nurse couldn't even reach my cervix, it was so high still ![]()
None of the doctors from the hospital (local practice) were on call, it was an-out of town doctor, who was amazing.
They admitted us, told us to sleep (by this point it was 4 am) and we did, labour never started and at 11:30 they started the drip. I ate a McFlurry with my hubby & mom around 12-12:30, labour kicked in by 1pm on April 10. By 2ish I was asking for gas, I refused Morphine as I'd had a bad experience. I wasn't sure if I wanted an epidural, but she checked me shortly after 3oclock and I was 6cm dialated.
I asked for the epi, the doctor was here by 3:30, and as they were getting me prepped I kept telling my mom (only one was allowed in the room while they were giving me the epidural and my hubby wasn't up to it) that I had a really strong pressure, like I was working not to push.
She told the nurse and anetheologist (sp?) but they said it was fine, and not to worry.
So the epi was easy to get, by the time they did it all and I got it- it was to late, he said it wouldn't do much if baby was in the birth canal.
Well she was, one side of me kind of froze, and I kept saying I have big time pressure. The nurse said she'd do a quick check. Well babies head was there, so they very quickly got my legs in stirrups, called the doctor in, and after 15 minutes of pushing, our DD was born.
5lbs 14 oz, 20 inch long. She is beautiful & perfect.
She has needed a little help, she spent just over 24 hrs (maybe 32hrs) in the isolete on oxygen, they removed oxygen last night and she is breathing room air on her own.
She is still in the isolete & has a feeding tube. But is doing amazing, she hasn't lost any weight, is having regular BM & wet diapers. I'm pumping (not going well but we are working hard at it) so she's getting a little milk from me. They are hoping she'll get out of the isolete today, but may need to keep the feeding tube in.
It's been a hard day and a half, we got to give her a kiss, and can touch her, but haven't got to hold her yet. I'm praying today is the day for that!
Hope all you other May Mama's keep your little ones cooking until their due dates.
I'll try and post a picture later!
