"Do you have any kids, because I'd like a photo of them to use for this assignment." -one of my (male) high school students
It came out really creepy, and it just flopped. I knew that's what he was talking about because right before that he and some others were whispering "You ask her," "No, you." I've come out to some of my classes and students, it's no secret, but this particular class has been giving me hell for the past week, so I smiled nicely and said, wow that sounded pretty creepy, is there something I should know about you?
Re: Weird way to ask if pregnant?
A student asked me today, how did I know that I was pregnant. (I teach sexual reproduction, so I have always been very honest and scientific) I told her that I didn't get my period, so I knew to test. She said, "omg- you said that out loud." I told her that was the answer. She said, "I can't imagine something coming out of me like that." I told her, "don't have sex and you won't have to worry about it."
I am also teaching sex ed currently while pregnant. It's funny because the girls ask, "Well how does the egg get fertilized?' And we were told to respond, "Ask your parents..." They're only 5th graders, but it is still a logical question that we can't answer.
Haha. I love it.
