If you delivered at Womans?

DH and my Mom will be the only ones in the delivery room during the actual delivery. I am fine with MIL, SIL and my Dad coming in before to see us when I am not in horrible pain. Just curious if anyone knows of any hospital policies regarding a limit in the room during actual delivery?

I'm pretty sure they know that I just wan't DH and my Mom in there but am not sure if I should be prepared to ask MIL and SIL to leave just in case.

  • I had a c-section, so I don't have personal experience, and I'm not sure what kind of limit there is.  However many ladies on here have said that the nurses will help you out to make you comfortable.  Tell them ahead of time who you do and don't want in the delivery room with you, and when the time comes, they'll be the bad guys and tell your MIL and SIL they can't stay.

I'm pretty sure it's a 2 person (or 3) limit in your L&D room, not counting you and hospital staff.

But definitely, as PPs said, let the nurses know and they will be the bad guys for you.

  • I was told I could have 3, but I only wanted DH.  My nurse was awesome and we came up with a signal for when I wanted others to get out.  She said family members get their feelings hurt less when it comes from the nurse.
  • I had several ppl in the room while I was "waiting" to dialate more.  I was under an epi, so it was easy to talk to everyone.  Then, when the time came, I had told the nurses it would just be DH and I.  Luckily, my family already knew that, too - so there was no issue of shuffling ppl out.  However, my mom did want to come in and watch them clean off the baby and do the stats off on the side of the room, which I was fine with.  (What I wasn't fine with was when she forgot her purse on the other side of the room, so she walked right in front of my spread legs while the doc was in the middle of sewing me up to go get it!  I mean, I know she's my mom and all, but seriously?  lol)

  • Before I ended up having a c-section, I was only allowed to have 3 people in the delivery room with me (if I went vaginally).....
