Fascinating article - Autism's First Child

I've been browsing various blogs and ran across a link to this article from the Atlantic.

 https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2010/10/autism-8217-s-first-child/8227/1/

It's about Donald Triplett, the first child (now adult, in his 70s) diagnosed with autism by Kanner. It was absolutely fascinating to me what he's gone on to do -- like travel to dozens of countries around the world.

The article also raises a number of issues about adults with autism, but his story by itself is really interesting.

Just thought I'd share!

Re: Fascinating article - Autism's First Child

  • I love stories like this, they give me hope for the future! Seriously, it can get pretty depressing worrying about how someone will be taken care of in the event they're all alone (my sister has autism), but things like this make it easier to relax.

I think the take away to the story is that money and a small accepting community can make a huge difference in quality of life.

    This is true for EVERYONE!
