3rd Trimester

When Did You Start Feeling Miserable?

Thus far, I've been gaining weight, it's harder to bend over and put on underwear, my tummy/back aches a little when I wake up, and my feet are starting to feel slightly swollen ... but I'm managing and OK. But I'm still at 30 weeks going on 31 ... and I hear it keeps getting worse.

At what point in your pregnancy, did you REALLY start feeling miserable??

Re: When Did You Start Feeling Miserable?

  • Honestly, I actually feel better now that I did a couple of weeks ago.  At that point, I was very miserable.  But now, maybe I'm just used to the pain in my knees and my swelling?

  • I felt horrible from weeks 6-26 due to horrific m/s.  Right now, I'm just about 37 weeks and I have had very few problems.  I feel uncomfortable at times, but I'm still okay. I plan to work until a few days before my due date.

Are you gaining a lot of weight still?  I stopped gaining around a month ago and even lost a few lbs, which my OB and every book I've read say is totally normal.  I try to get out of the house, get fresh air, go for short walks and I definitely eat extra healthy.  This all helps me feel decent.

  • With Ds it was the last 6 weeks because I could barely move & had carpal tunnel . This time it was from day one up til 28 weeks cause I was hugging the toliet and now just recently as a  few months ago been having knee and hip pain.

  • I'm excited for the baby, but I can honestly say that I HATE being pregnant. I've been miserable since my clothes stopped fitting at around 23 weeks...but I've been truly "miserable" (as in, multiple weekly meltdowns miserable lol) since right around 33 weeks.

  • I have never really felt miserable. The only thing that has me wanting this baby out physically is that I have the pregnanct carpel tunnel in my hands and arms which makes it difficult to get comfortable at night.

  • I hit my breaking point literally the day I turned 36 weeks. I mean, leading up to that I was uncomfortable tying my shoes, bending over, etc but I wasn't miserable. It only lasted for about a week though. I think my body was adjusting and it was super hard to do anything but now that I've been able to "deal" with being miserable, I feel a little better. Only two weeks to go! Hang in there and know that in the end you'll get an outside baby :)

  • I'm still feeling pretty good most of the time.

  • I was about 35 weeks when I started feeling miserable. Until then, my pregnancy was super easy but just about then, I started having swelling, started having hip pain at night, and just got huge which makes everything very difficult.
  • I really started to feel miserable at 39 1/2 weeks.  I am just ready for LO to be here, but she is being stubborn.

  • I would say around 28 weeks things started sucking again (I would say I was miserable for the first 4 months because I had trouble keeping anything down).

And things only suck because I have pain and soreness in my pelvic region.  So I really feel like I'm waddeling around and I can't sit in one position for too long.  I always have to adjust (ask my poor DH who I've given a bloody nose in the middle of the night).  And what sucks more about having to constantly readjust is that it usually hurts in my pelvic region and back to move and readjust.

I also feel like I need a nap 2 hours after waking up.  And having a 19 month old thats freakin impossible!  I tend to nap when I put him down for his afternoon nap though.

  • I am miserable now.  I keep hearing that weeks 31ish to 34ish are awful and then my body will adjust a bit more, so I'm hopeful!  I just can't get comfortable.  At night, my legs are restless and itchy.  My hips hurt after an hour laying down so I have to roll over (no easy feat) every hour or so.  Every time I stand up the pressure on my bladder is so intense that I fear I may pee my pants!

Mostly I think my miserable-ness is work related.  I have a super high stress job in which I work 10-12 hour shifts and have an hour commute each way.  I'm not allowed to use the restroom regularly or have breaks.  I have evil coworkers.  I'm planning to take off for maternity leave 4-5 weeks before EDD and I know I will feel much better as soon as I don't have to come to this place anymore.  My stress level is through the roof and that, I think, is the biggest reason I feel so awful.

  • Honestly, I felt great from week 19 until week 36. The m/s was gone and I wasn't feeling too huge. The vaginal pressure intensified, and that wasn't fun, but I could handle it. The last two weeks have been a little harder, and I'm certainly looking forward to our scheduled delivery on Friday.

The best thing you can do - and I know, this is WAY easier said than done between job/house/other kids - is keep your feet up whenever possible and stay super hydrated. It helps a lot w/ the swelling and pain.

  • I'm still not miserable. I haven't had any pain other than "baby in my ribs", no swelling, reasonable weight gain. I'm still sleeping okay. I'm tired by the end of the work week, but really - I'm 8 months in and thinking "yeah, we could do this again".
  • I'm not miserable yet either, but I'm certainly uncomfortable and know it will get worse.  Right now my main complaints are difficulty sleeping and serious lower back pain - my body is NOT used to carrying around all this extra weight.  And it really didn't help that I spent the morning vomiting - for those hours, I was truly miserable! (I've had terrible m/s all pregnancy.  I thought I'd try skipping a dose of the Zofran to see if I REALLY still need it.  Apparently I do.)

  • I will second the previous poster who said when the second line showed up on the pregnancy test. "Morning sickness" was an all-day occurance for me for the first 5 months. The nausea still comes and goes to this day, but thankfully I have moments now where it's completely gone!

My current definition of miserable is just that my whole body aches now and I've only gained 16 pounds so far after starting out right in the middle of my recommended BMI. I guess I'm just not used to carrying extra weight and it's especially hard having it all concentrated like a bowling ball in my belly. I feel so lazy, having to rest all of the time. I can't wait to have an outside baby and to be able to move around normally again!

  • For me it gets worse and worse every week. Now, at 37 weeks I barely leave the house. I barely leave the couch, actually. I'm 100% miserable.
  • I dunno, I still feel pretty great. I think I'm just not there yet =)

I am sad DH's work messed up our moving schedule (now it seems I'll be stuck in my parents house - that isn't a bad thing in itself, my folks are great and DH gets along beautifully with them too, but we really miss having our own place - until a few months after the baby is born. AND I will have the extra joy of apartment hunting with a newborn. Yay...) and also that, because of that, DH has to spend a week or two here and a week away (we had never spendt much time apart before and are really close so it's been really hard on us, silly as it may seem). But it is temporary and we have skype so... it is manageable.

Also, my feet and legs have been swelling to cankles since the 24th week and my back hurts pretty badly sometimes, especiallly if I stand for too long (I've got a 12 degrees scoliosis). Sleeping is hard, but it's been harder before. I think I'm getting used to it now. Peeing a lot in the evening. Gaining weight like a hippo... stretch marks everywhere... ugh! Maybe I should be miserable... lol I think I've got a pregnancy high or something.

Oh, of course, the fact that I've had zero morning sickness since the beginning of the pregnancy helps a lot. Plus I've quit my very stressful job ever since I found out I was pregnant and that is also a big help. So you see, I should be ashamed to complain about anything at all. If I had to work right now I would be miserable for sure - so my heart goes out for the ladies with morning sickness and/or work to deal with. Hope you guys feel better soon! Hope no one gives you a hard time! It will all be ok again, ladies! Let's just hang in there!

    All the best, everyone!

  • I was feeling pretty miserable from week 30 to about 33, and then in the last week I have started feeling better. I think my body was just adjusting to a growth spurt. So right now I'm feeling pretty good, even at the end of the work day. Of course I have to move slower, don't sleep very well, have swollen feet/ankles, and pee all the time but I think that's just par for the course.

  • really it's this week that I started feeling icky.  I'm having more lower uterine pain... can't call it contractions just pains...  and walking is hard and sleeping is hard...  and my feet are swelling.

  • Week 36 was emotionally hard on me.  I had some stretch marks pop up under my belly and my ankles started swelling at night.  Now it's all good again.  I haven't really felt bad though, getting out of bed takes awhile but that is pretty much the worst of it

  • I feel fine minus getting comfortable to sleep at night. My last pregnancy was miserable. This pregnancy has been pretty easy!
  • Earlier this week I was having the worst acid reflux ever and sciatic nerve pain and was really really tired, so that was making me miserable, but I'm feeling better now. I keep waiting to hit the wall, but it comes and goes really.
