So that was a fail...

DS has been STTN for ever it seems like and I just messed with a good thing and screwed it up apparently. He typically goes to sleep around 9p. Last night he slept 11 hours and I was just sitting around waiting for him to wake until 8a so I figured we should try an earlier bedtime. Well, that backfired because although he did sleep eight hours, it is now 3:00a and he's up and hungry. Why did I not just let him be? Tonight we are so back to 8:30-9:00 bedtime.

Re: So that was a fail...

  • this just happened to me too, unfortunately my baby does not STTN but we were putting him to bed between 9-10 and he'd wake up between 2-3 (which was ok, but I have to get up for work at 5 so it didnt really allow me much time to get more sleep after I fed him and pumped) so last night he was hungry around 8:15 and I thought PERFECT I'll do his bedtime routine and then he'll get up between 1-2 and I can sleep again a couple hours before I have to go to work--NOPE- he woke up at 11:30 DH was pissed and again at 3:55---so this definitly backfired and I expect to be one sleepy lady today, especially since I have to work and then tonight I'm going out to dinner and a show with my girlfriends--ARGH :(

  • Yea, DS woke and was up from 3a-5a, because right after nursing he had a huge poop which woke him up when I went to change his diaper and then he wanted to nurse again.  Then he slept for 2 more hours and was up at 7a, bright and awake.  He stayed up for another hour or so and then napped for like a half hour, just enough time for me to get a shower in at least.  Normally he is asleep until 7a and then gives me a good 2 hour nap and then is up for the day.  I should have showered and gotten ready at 5, but I was too tired and went back to sleep.

  • I can't get DS on a bedtime routine :/ Is that bad? He kind of just sleeps whenever he wants. Which is ok I suppose right now since I'm not back to work yet. But when I do go back to work I see it as potentially becoming a problem. Sometimes I just kinda feel like I'm not doing the right thing.

We don't have a bedtime routine either. Lucas usually is up from 9:30-11 and then sleeps from 12-4. It works for us and it gives us a nice chunk a sleep. Between the 9:30-11 time, MH gives him a bottle so I can get more sleep. I pump before he wakes up.

No, DS pretty much set his schedule from the get-go, we were just really lucky that he likes to sleep so long at night.  I was just thinking about when I go back to work that if he would go to bed a little earlier, then he would get up a bit earlier, and I wouldn't have to wake him so early and make him upset.  I tried to put him down to sleep a little early because he was sleeping more and he gave me the cues last night that he was tired earlier, likely because he didn't get in a good afternoon nap.  I was hoping that would be a better pattern for him going to sleep earlier, but turns out that was not the case.  Hopefully he'll be back to his regular bedtime tonight and STTN again.
