Does your 4 month old weigh more than mine?

I scrolled through to see if this has been discussed recently but couldn't find anything. We had M's 4 month appointment on Tuesday.

19lbs 12oz, 27 inches...BIG BOY! We just switched to size 4 diapers, ahh! I EBF and the Doctor wants me to start rice cereal. I had hoped to wait until 6 months to start, but reconsidering.

  • My 3.5 month old is 19 lbs 4oz, 26.5 inches.  I don't understand why the Dr. wants you to start rice cereal. Did he explain?

Yeah, I can't compete. Wyatt's 4 mo is on friday- and I'm hoping for 12.5ish! But you know- I'm starving my skinny baby (see below).

Just read it, don't stress! Your little man is perfect, you know what's best. I am sure you are an excellent mommy. Babies grow differently, it's tough not to be concerned if they are gaining too much or too little, but just know that you are doing your best :)

She said it may help him sleep (he eats every 2 hours around the clock) because it will fill him up more. Him waking honestly doesn't even bother me anymore, I've gotten used to it. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to start cereal, I don't think he's ready yet.

  • Our 4 month is Monday, but at a weight check 2 weeks ago she was 10lb 7oz. A peanut! I'm hoping we'll be like 11 1/2 on Monday. Madison830 I also have a complex about her weight...

  • If he needs a little more before he goes to bed, what about pumping in the morning then giving him a bottle at night?  I think it would be better than starting cereal too soon.

Your LO sounds like mine. He's 10 lbs 11 oz and is EBF. It's hard not to have a complex about their weight especially when people comment negatively.

  • Our "4 month" appointment isn't until she's almost 5 months, but it just so happens that I weighed her in a very scientific manner (weighing myself on a 100 year old scale, then holding her and weighing us both) earlier this evening.

    She's 15lbs.  Woah.

I know - it's hard.  The doctor was like - well someone's baby has to be in the 1st percentile.  Thanks - I think??? I mean she's really great and not worried at all, but that doesn't mean I'll stop having a complex lol.

  • Gosh I feel like my LO is a string bean now. Her 4 month appointment was March 28th and she was 12lbs 10oz and 25 3/4 in. She's stayed pretty steady in the 25th percentile for weight and 75th to 85th percentile for height.

  • Wow, 19 lbs and EBF? Amazing. I'm jealous of the amount of calories you must be burning thru BF. My LO is not quite 12 lbs yet.

  • Nope. We were 10lb, 12oz at our appr. I wouldn't feel pressure to start rice. I've heard it's less calorie dense than BM so it won't provide more nutrition, but less. I'm skipping rice altogether, though and going for fruit/ veggies at 6 months.
  • My 5 month old weighs 13lbs and is FF. My arms are too weak to handle anything heavier (j/k obv.)

B is on the small side as well and I've been worried I EBF as well. Her 4 month is Friday, I weight myself with her and it looks like she is right around 13lbs. My DH keeps telling me to stop being stupid she has enough wet diapers so she is getting what she needs. :-) all Babies are different.
