I know plans can change at any moment, for a number of reasons. But I'm just curious about the demographic of our board. If all goes well, what are you hoping/planning for? [Poll]
Hoping to go unmedicated- but who knows! I am not 100% against drugs, just terrified of the stick in my spine and the many possible terrifying side effects!

Yeah, that's why I tried to qualify it. I know plans change for a lot of births. FWIW, I'm not personally pro-epidural, but I have heard a lot of ladies say that it didn't hurt going in. That's not been everyone's experience (I want to say mrsmikey had a really bad experience with her's, but I could be thinking of someone else). Anyway, do your research, because yes, there are possible side effects. But most people say it really helps with the pain, and doesn't hurt going in. Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
I voted SS - I with birth at a birth center that is a wing in our hospital, but I'm not going to walk in requesting drugs. Depending on if I have to be induced again or not, I'll just play things by ear. I got the epi 32 hours into one heck of an induction last time, I might try to set a new record for holding out longer this time

Wow--I am seriously impressed that you lasted that long, especially with an induction! I bow to you.
This this this!..I will be selfish and greedy I want me some drugs! (They didn't effect DD at all so that whole making babies tired blah blah bogus!)
No judgment here. That's the opposite of what I'm going for, but more power to you! Everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with. I don't think all the evidence about the drugs having a short-term effect on babies is bogus exactly, but I don't think it affects every baby the same (and apparently it doesn't affect some at all! Good for you!).

Oh im sure it effects some and even some mothers...I just had a positive experience with it is all and not hating on the medfree or any natural mamas I just couldn't do it.. I thought about it.. but I had pitocin maybe if I contracted on my own but pit induced contractions .. im a baby with pain
I voted SS because of the twins. With a singleton I would have wanted to attempt an unmedicated hospital birth, but I not 100% against epidurals either. Now there is a very high chance I will have a scheduled c-section. However if I have the option I would attempt a vaginal delivery, but honestly with two, that really scares me!

I can't imagine having pitocin without an epi. Of course, I've never given birth, so I can't imagine any of it, really. But I've heard pit contractions are pretty wicked. And I didn't feel like you were hating at all. I really meant what I said--I'm way pro-natural birth, but everyone has to do what feels right for them.

With DS my water broke at 2am...around noon they started me on pitocin because I wasn't dialating...a little while after the contractions came...a little while after that the epidural came...and by 6pm with 10 minutes of pushing, I had my DS. It was such a wonderful experience. I didn't want to be in so much pain that I couldn't enjoy his birth. P.S. The epi didn't hurt me either. More power to the med free mamas!

I'm going to try and labor naturally as long as I can, but will probably end up with an epidural. If anyone else is doing an unmedicated birth, I'll take your drugs too.
O and also this is if I have time for drugs. I know it could go either way but women in my family have incredibly fast labors so I'm a little worried that I might not even have time for drugs. EEEEP!

Ha! I'll be at a free-standing birth center, and pain meds won't even be available unless I decide I need them bad enough to transfer to the hospital. I'll send mine your way!
I voted special snowflake, but ONLY because I haven't decided if I'm going to get an epi or not. With DD I wanted as many drugs as I could get, but ended up not able to have ANY, not even an epi. Well, now that I know I "can" do it natural, I question whether I should try it again, or get the epi. I probably won't make that decision until day of!

This! I plan on getting drugs, but my mom had very short labors with both my brother and I. My brother was 7 hours and I was about 1 hour and 45 minutes. I was almost born in the waiting room lol.
Hoping to go unmedicated- but who knows! I am not 100% against drugs, just terrified of the stick in my spine and the many possible terrifying side effects!
I want to click "Get me to the hospital and drug me!", but seeing as I had a bad reaction to the epi last time I'm not sure whether I will get one or not this time. If it gets too bad, I will give it a second shot, otherwise I will be an unwilling naturalbirth.

They seem to be identical - one placenta, confirmed again at our 14 week u/s!
I am all for natural and medicated deliveries. I just don't know which is right for me. So I will try to go as far as I can without meds and in the laboring tub but if I need meds I have no problem asking for the epi!

LOL, thanks. I made it through two rounds of cervadil (to ripen my cervix) and waaaaaay too much pitocin without so much as a whimper. But once they broke my water, around 28 hours in, that was it. Back labor plus pitocin did me in. That epi was heaven

I had no epidural and had pitocin because I got stuck at 6 cm and wasn't progressing after 6 hours. It was really intense, and although I did it, I 100% will not be doing that again. Bring on the epi!

This exactly. I am more concerned with not having a C-section, so if I need an epi because they think I may tire without it...bring it on.
Assuming all goes well, I'll be going the birth center route (freestanding, not in-hospital). They have some drugs if needed, but don't administer them lightly, so most likely I'll be drug-free.
I always thought I'd be the lady screaming for an epidural on the way into the hospital, but I've changed my perspective. Plus, I don't know if I could handle getting a needle in my back - yikes! I'm a wuss about needles.
That said, if the baby is unusually large, or breach, or there are other unforeseen complications, I understand I may end up with a hospital birth or c-section. Hopefully not, but I figure with birth, there's only so much you can plan, and you have to be flexible to change with the situation.

Freestanding birth center for me too. I'll be chillin in the tub, you can have my drugs too!
I had DD unmedicated, with a midwife, in a birth center attached to our hospital & plan to hopefully do the same with the next one.
With DD I started having contractions at home and I was admitted at 4cm. I was in labor for 24 hours at the birth center. But from the 1st mini contraction at home to the final push it was a total of 43 hours. Needless to say I was exhausted after. I'm so jealous of those fast labors! I'm hoping #2 will be a little easier!
(A side note to those ladies hoping to go unmedicated.. I highly suggest looking into a labor doula. Our hospital provided a doula for free so we opted to have one and it was the best decision. DH is a fabulous man/coach but I probably would have been running down the hall for an epi if it wasn't for our doula's assistance! She really did an amazing job.)
If my husband felt more comfortable with a home birth, we would be at home. He's nervous about a HB and the first baby and out of respect for him we'll be at a hospital. The doc I have is extremely pro med free L&D (has had 2 HBs herself!) and we have a doula. We're doing what we can to prepare for an unmedicated birth. I'm confident it will work out that way too.

I am hopeful for an unmedicated hospital birth. Due to complications with pitocin last time around, I will never be administered the drug ever again. (except for after birth to contract the ute) I am incredibly glad, because pitocin contractions are massively more painful than natural ones.
Due to what happened to me last time, there is no way I would risk not being in a hospital. As much as I would love to be at a birthing center, it's not in the cards for me.
SS - I really want to attempt a medication-free delivery. I say attempt, because I have no idea what to expect, how it will feel, etc, so I'm preparing myself for starting medication-free, but it possibly changing later into labor.

I'm going with SS. I don't want an epi, because I know people who've had back problems weeks after the actual birth from them. I do want some sort of pain relief, probably laughing gas. My mom and a friend used that and said it was pretty good.
I will definetly be in a hospital. I'm not brave enough to attempt home birth or a birth centre.

I'm going to try going without pain meds again. I'm gearing up for a likely pitocin induction though
I had to be induced when my first was a week late (and it was the day before christmas eve!) and he ended up being 9 lbs 11 oz. After as much labor as I could take, I got the epi, delivered him so easily, happily. But I was disappointed in myself because I wasn't as prepared as I should've been. It hurt SO BAD and I guess I didn't manage it very well.
Next baby, my dr got nervous the closer I got to my due date that this might be another huge baby and we scheduled the induction for 1 day after my due date. I didn't want a super huge baby to cause me to need a C/S. Then I couldn't handle the pain again and got my epi at 5 cm and she was born 1 hour later (not pain-free, but not bad!)
Third baby, I was READY. I'd done everything I could with exercises, classes, books, breathing techniques, a committed birth partner: my husband. And then I got nervous bc baby wasn't coming and I didn't want to be induced again. So I did all kinds of things (the funny stuff and the ugly stuff) to induce myself, and it worked...for about 12 hours. Then it stopped and I had to be induced with pitocin, same as always. But I stuck it out that time and had him with no pain-meds. He was born one day before his due date and weighed 10 lbs. I cannot express how painful this was. At least twice as bad as I was expecting and I was really, really prepared. Childbirth HURTS!
An average size baby and/or not having to be induced would be fabulous this time!!!

I chose SS because, even though this is my first, I believe I will have a c-section. All of the women in my family have had c-sections because of big babies and a small pelvis. My doctor said with such a strong family history of this, I will more than likely have a c-section. He is going to check me at 36 weeks and then he is even going to give me the option of scheduling it so I won't have to go into labor!!! WHOO HOO!!!
If I can do it vaginally, I would love too. And will be fully medicated, even though the thought of the epi scares me worse than labor itself!
