Preschool Easter egg goodies

I volunteered to take over the stuffing of Easter eggs for E's preschool (1-4 year olds).  I was given a TON of eggs and just a few fillers (marshmallows, gummies, jelly beans).  I washed the eggs that will hold the open sweet treats (about 15 dozen) and we won't be giving the 1-2 year olds the jelly beans.  I also filled a lot of the 1-2 year olds eggs with stickers.  For the bigger eggs I put little bags of fruit snacks & small boxes of raisins.

What else can I do?  I thought about goldfish.  We aren't doing anything chocolate because of the peanut/nut possible contamiation and hoenstly, they don't need any more sugar!  I need some cheap ideas please, because now it's on my dime :)

Also, how long can the eggs with free floating treats sit?  I'm talking about the marshmellows & gummies & possibly goldfish.  The hunt is Tuesday morning and I'd rather spread out the stuffing over the next few days instead of just next Monday night, but I don't want the mellows to get hard or the goldfish stale.

Thanks ladies!

  • We're putting stickers in ours. I think goldfish or teddy graham type crackers would be a great idea.

I'm surprised marshmallows and raisins are allowed, as they're not at our DC because they're considered choking hazards. Maybe they're not at your school (I personally would and have fed Holly both), but something to think about.

Since those eggs don't have an airtight seal, I'd probably stuff them as close to the time you need them as possible. However, I've found my kid at least apparently doesn't mind staleness, as she'll happily eat a half eaten snack trap of goldfish I've fished out of the backseat of the car from a week earlier. LOL.

  • IF I was going to hold off on some of the eggs till the night before then i'd wait on the marshmellows cuz if those are out too long they'd get hard and then lil ones wouldn't be able to eat them as well but if the goldfish are out they wont be as obvious to being stale tasting to the kiddos.

  • You could use those mini cheese crackers from TJ's, or dried blueberries. Or maybe cheerios? I wouldn't worry too much about the staleness factor, I know my child is delighted when she finds a 3 month old goldfish stuck in the crevice of her carseat, lol.

  • One more thought- do you think Party City or something like that might have those little mini hand stamps? I bet those would fit in an Easter egg, and that would be exciting.

Those would be quite exciting!  If I find myself driving by one this weekend I'll check it out.  I'm trying to be thrifty, fun and please the little ones & the parents.

I'm definitely going to start filling some with goldfish & teddy grahams.  E also has no problem with stale cracker/cookies.  The 'mellows/gummies will wait until Monday.  Thanks ladies!
