Infertility

My first acupuncture appointment!

Well...I did it! I lived and I actually really enjoyed it for having needles (which I normally hate) stuck in me! :) The guy is so nice and I really like his personality.  He knows a ton about IF, specifically PCOS, and how it all relates to TCM.  I am very excited to be going down this road before I try anything more invasive.  I start my herbs on CD 4 which should be within a week or so I am hoping.  I only got 5 needles today b/c he didn't want to freak me out; 3 in my belly, 1 in each leg.

 A few questions:

How often do you go? It was $160 today (first appt. and 20 days of herbs) and will be $70 for ea. appointment after. He wants me to come once a week for 3 cycles and we'll see where that goes. Yikes for my wallet! But I think he's really, really good so hopefully it is worth it.

Did the herbs (I have 2 different sets of pills) make you feel any different? Any side effects?

If you noticed a difference in your body or cycles, how long did it take?

I am so happy I went!

Re: My first acupuncture appointment!

  • I got my BFP after doing treatments every week for a month and a half. I also did the herbal tea that he gave me. The herbs didn't really make me feel any different as far as side effects. But the whole acupuncture experience for me was amazing. It was very relaxing too. Best of luck!!!!
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

  • Are you seeing Steve B?
  • I went twice a week during stims, three times the week of ER/ET and then twice a week in the 2ww.  I only pay a copay ($25) each time, and if I had to pay the cash pay rate ($80) I would probably cut it back to once a week.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • ooh that is encouraging!!! :) He didn't mention a "tea", but I will ask about that next time.

Yup, Steve B....  I think you said you knew people who went there, right? But you never went?

  • I"m glad you liked it!

I used to go around once a week, then we cut back to twice a month--once around ovulation, once around my period.

The herbs didn't have any side effects, they just seem to have normalized my cycle. I was put on "heart" herbs at one point and got violently, violently ill. I'm not doing those any more.

After 2 acu sessions my spotting issues stopped.

  • I went once a week and it was $75 per session.  My acu also specialized in fertility.  I never did the herbs b/c my RE said he did not want me taking herbs with any of my other medicines.  I noticed that I did not have as many headaches, and no migraines while I was going to acu.  I also felt like my periods were less painful and my spotting didn't last as long.  I had been spotting for sometimes 6 days before my period would start and then again for up to 5 days after my period ended and that lessened a lot.  It also halped a lot with the severe nausea I had when I took clomid.  Overall I loved acu and when we did our IUI cycles I went twice the weeks of the IUIs.  I stopped goign now b/c of the cost, it is very expensive.  But I would definitely do it again anytime!
  • I go every other week b/c it is $100 a treatment.  I started it last cycle, the day of my IUI, and had a chemical pregnancy.  I figure if I do it before and after the treatment, it just might stick!  I'm also taking some herbal pills, and I haven't noticed any difference just yet.
