Inexpensive car seat recommendations?

I'm considering getting an inexpensive carseat for our trip to Disney in June. We're renting a car, and I don't trust the rental place's seats. I could take one out of our car, but that seems like a huge PITA. I figure if I get an inexpensive one, we can put it in my mom's car, since she takes DD once a week or so.

I'm interested to hear if you guys have any recommendations for carseats in the $100 or less range. Thanks!

Re: Inexpensive car seat recommendations?

  • we just bought 2 Cosco Scenera from Walmart.  They were on sale 2 for $78 or 1 for $39.  they have great reviews and it was on consumer reports as one of the best car seats.

  • we also got cosco sceneras based on the recommendation of consumer reports.  they were inexpensive, and we've been using them for dd for over a year.  they do come with a (somewhat flimsy) travel bag, so you can take them as luggage with relative ease.

  • We're getting ready to buy the Cosco one for travel/grandpa too.

  • We have the Cosco as well for the grandparent's car and we always take it with us on vacations as well. It works great.

  • We have the Cosco and like it for occasional use and you can't beat the price. We took one out of DH's car and replaced it with a Britax because it's a bit more difficult to tighten and loosen the straps and that gets annoying for everyday use. But we still have one in MIL's car.
