Babywise mommas come in

I just finished reading Baby Wise last night.  I love the idea but right now, it is working for me to have DD sleep after she eats.  She is not falling asleep at the breast but after she burps.

I would love some perspective from those who have tried/do use this method.  What do you think?  Thanks!

Re: Babywise mommas come in

  • There have been some very different opinions on babywise on here in the past. It has been associated with failure to thrive syndrome for those who have taken it very literally, in that the schedule dictated when the baby was attuned to, as opposed to on demand.  I would also do some research on what the pediatric world says about, as opinions vary. - maybe take the schedule as a suggestion??

I think one big issue comes in when people take the schedule too literally, as CHS said. The book says, but does not stress nearly enough "If your baby is hungry before their scheduled feeding, feed them" (then it goes on to say you should figure out if they got a "full meal" at their last feeding).

I did read babywise and I am enjoying some of the tips and advice, but definitely taking other advice and my own mommy intuition into account. I am wearing Mackenzie in a babybjorn right now while she sleeps- definitely not what babywise would recommend. If something in the book doesn't work for you, I think you could still use other techniques- in your situation, using a feed, sleep, wake routine.

  • We are following the eat, play, sleep pattern. We've done that since he was born, and he definately knows day from night. During the day he is wide awake after eating. At night, he falls right asleep... well, usually.

He is having some gas issues that keep him up.

Just FYI...I'm insanely jealous of you.  Stick out tongue
