You guys do realize that negligent is a synonym for careless, yes? It's pretty damn careless not to try to prevent the spread of harmful (and at times) fatal bacteria. I never said I was calling CPS.
It's hilarious that people have to resort to such extreme measures just to try to win on the internet. Who cares if I think your lack of wiping a shopping cart handle is negligent? Obviously you know it's somewhat questionable or you wouldn't be defending your decision to the death, FFS.
negligence is something you call CPS over, carelessness is not. labeling a parent as negligent if they don't use antibacterial sanitizer is hyperbolic at the very least.
if a restroom only has sanitizer I'll use it, but rinse afterwards. i can't stand the feel or smell of that crap.
i have never, ever once used sanitizer on a cart. the whole idea is idiotic. Are you picking up chicken and putting it in the cart on the counter for the cashier? back into the cart? then touching baby or cart cover? Are you directly touching any other item int he store that someone else may have touched who came into contact with raw chicken? After this are you touching your cart cover?
The reason people are developing antibiotic immunities is the abuse of antibiotics and the misuse of antibiotics (e.g. taking a z-pack every time they have a cold).
If it would make you feel better, I can rub raw chicken on the handle of the cart once I'm done with it. But I'll warn you, I'm going to wear gloves when I do it.
The point ------------------------------------------------------- You.
We're not talking about people developing antibiotic immunities. We're talking about the mutation of bacteria to resist common antibacterials. Which, in turn, makes them harder to kill and treat.
Well, then you should tell the chick that used completely irrelevant articles that she, too, was missing the point.
I don't even use antibacterials, I'm just being irritating because your sense of superiority is nauseating.

My name is Lucy, and I'm a negligent parent, because I have never used cart covers and rarely use the antibacterial wipes. Someone hold twatley back! lol.
Count me as neglectful too!
And get this - my 2 kids are freakishly healthy! They never get sick, even though I practically coat them in a nice mixture of chicken slime/e. coli goodness each and every time we go shopping.
I'm not crazy, I've just been a very bad mood for the last 40 years!
All of these "I never use anti-bacterial soap, cart covers, wipes and my chirren are just fine" statements remind me of the "I smoked/never used a car seat with you and you turned out fine" argument.
Hey, it worked for you. Awesome. That doesn't mean my child wouldn't be the one to come down with foot and mouth disease, salmonella, etc. So yeah, I'm cleaning sh!t. Shoot me.

I never said anyone was a negligent parent, which in that context would mean that I think they are neglecting their child. Which certainly is not the case. I said their actions were negligent, or careless for those of us who own a dictionary.
Dude. give it up. the idiot hole you've dug is plenty big.

She doesn't care how big the hole is, just as long as she has her antibacterial wipes to keep all the skeery germies off her.
My God, this post is just chock full of idiots who seem to be hell bent on ignoring actual educated posters.
Also, you may want to go ahead and judge me as negligent, and call CPS, because MANY times I look in the back seat and see my 3 year old chewing on, and licking her shoes. That's right. Her shoes. She started doing this as soon as she was able to take them off. If she didn't kick them off in the car, she would chew on them. Amazingly, she hasn't died yet, or even had anything but a cold. No ear infections, no "stomach flu." Nothing.

I agree for the most part, but there are studies that show kids these days have higher rates of asthma and allergies bc they aren't exposed to as many germs.
^ This.
Obviously it is better not to toss a kid in the back of a pickup truck, but I am seriously not going to start making extra double sure I "sanitize" my freaking shopping cart in case, god forbid, my little precious touches it. She touches a million things a day - kids need to come in contact with germs and bacteria or they will be miserably, sickly adults.
You guys are the reason why I will never be a SAHM. If this is the hill you all are ready to die on, you have way too much free time.
Seriously, people. If your faith in humanity is destroyed because your parents told you there was a Santa Claus and as it turns out there is no Santa Claus, you are an ignorant, hypersensitive cry baby with absolutely zero perspective.

Well gosh. Please make sure you pat yourself on the back for doing such a good job and all. I don't judge you for being negligent but I am judging you for dressing your non-twin children in matching outfits.

Let me spell this out for you all: your kid is going to find MUCH worse things to put in their mouths than then handle of a shopping cart. Life will go on. I promise.

You are absolutely right. And I'm not debating the germ issue. I use a cover because I don't want my kid's mouth on it. I can CONTROL that right now. So I'm going to. My point is just like all of the other PP's- being a board-crasher and being so self-righteous about it is nauseatingly annoying. We get your point and most probably agree. So you can go back to where ever it is you came from now feeling so much better about yourself. We will be fine, thanks.

Re: You may disagree with me but.....
I heart you!
I have to be honest.
My cervix has contributed to the destruction of humanity.
Yes, it's true. Before my embryo transfer, my RE cleaned my cervix with anti-bacterial soap.
