Fibroids Anyone?

During my wonderful first u/s the tech found a small fibroid in the top center of my uterus. She was surprised that no one had ever discovered this before.

The midwife said it "shouldn't be a problem" but that has me kind of unsettled.

Does anyone else have a fibroid or fibroids? Any experience with this? TIA!

Re: Fibroids Anyone?

  • I have a small one and my doctor said it wasn't near anywhere it would make it an issue.  She did tell me that it can go 2 ways they either shrink or they can grow but in general they don't cause an issue unless they are near the attachment area. I have not worried about it since that conversation.

  • That is good, I am happy you have nothing to worry about:)

The midwife said that fibroids love the pregnancy hormones and are "like a homeless person mooching off my hormones."  I don't know if that means it will get bigger or if it will shrink?

Both the MW and u/s tech said it is too small to really worry about or to do extra monitoring so I hope it stays that way! Dr. Google just told me that if  you have fibriods you are 6 times more likely to have a c-section.

  • Dr Google is no friend.  Do you know what your likely hood of having a C is today?  I don't know mine but 6 times is not too high a percentage. It's too early to worry about it. At the end of the day we all want healthy babies and I know that if I have to have a C to bring my baby into the world what can I do about it.

  • When we were TTC our first, they discovered I had a "large" fibroid.  They also said that it shouldn't be a problem.  Turns out they were right.  I ended up giving birth natually without issue.

Their biggest concern was if I ended up needing a c-section.  The fibroid fills with extra blood, so if it even got knicked during the procedure, it would have been difficult to stop the bleeding...

We weren't planning on having a 2nd, so I never got it removed.  So, now, I have to deal with that concern again this pregnancy...

Overall, I wouldn't worry about it.  They will just keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't get in the way for delivery.  Good luck!

I am not concerned at all about having a c-section, I will do anything it takes to deliver my healthy baby! I was just stating something that I read online related to fibroids. You are right in saying Dr. Google is not a friend!
