Cramping vs contractions (I know this gets asked all the time)

Sorry because I know this gets asked a lot, but I hadn't been reading the posts because I haven't been having anything. My fault, I know.

I had my membranes stripped this morning and now I'm feel very strong cramping that comes and goes in waves.Could this be the start of contractions? My lower back hurts too. I'm just not sure if this is wishful thinking that the membrane stripping worked or just cramping as a result of the procedure.

  • My OB said contractions can feel like cramps. I know thats what my contractions feel like especially in my back.

  • My contractions definitely felt like waves of really bad menstrual cramps.  Mine have always been irregular and never progressed.  Drink some water and lay down.  If this is the start of labor, they will probably on increase in strength and get timetable.

    Good luck!

  • When I woke up to my cramps they came in waves as well but they didn't go away - they normally went away after peeing, drinking or just on their own. After an hour I sat and timed them and they were very consistent. My cramps felt like bad period cramps at first and eventually wrapped around to my back after about two hours and they were like 5mins apart and got stronger. Fingers crossed this is the real deal for you!!!

  • Thanks! I'm going to go to bed and hope they get stronger. I scheduled my induction for Monday, so I'm hoping that this little guy is trying to bust of out there sooner!
