In Maidenform, of all places. Jamie needed to eat, it was the closest store, so I popped in and casually said 'can I just use a fitting room to nurse my son?' I have done it in many fitting rooms before and never had a problem, so I was expecting them to say 'oh sure no problem!' (we were at an outdoor outlet mall so just sitting on a bench wasn't an option as it was a bit chilly).
The girl I asked got a Look on her face, and said 'uuhhh' while looking at the other girl working there. Other girl said 'err, you're not really supposed to have fluids or diapers in there.' I was already shocked that I didn't get an automatic yes, and said 'well I'm just going to nurse him, there are no diapers involved in that.' Other girl says 'um, maybe you could go to Motherhood..'
I told her I didn't know exactly where that was, I was already here, and you can't really say no to letting me feed my baby, it's the law. At this point she says 'well it's a private place, and you aren't a paying customer.' I just looked at her and was like 'believe me, I have spent plenty here in the past! [I used to wear maidenform bras exclusively before having Jamie] If you're really going to be like that I'll go elsewhere, but this is ridiculous. I'll bring a bra in there if you really want.'
Finally first girl let me into the fitting room, I think because I was making a scene and they were just trying to keep me quiet. I still can't believe they gave me shiit about it. And in Maidenform. It's not like I was in a mens suit store or something.
I will be calling their corporate offices tomorrow to complain, and I won't be giving them my business anymore.
Oh, and I changed his diaper in there, just to spite them. And it was a HUGE poop. I hope they smelled it.
Re: I was given a hard time about nursing today. (longish)
"My friendships are just like my marriage. We just sit here and not talk." Said by greenclown when she, hippo and I were sitting on her couch on botb at the same time.

Hmm.. I'm surprised the asst manager or manager wasn't aware of laws re: nursing. I can see a young clerk not knowing any better, but there should always be "someone" in charge.
Please follow up with the call so corporate can get the word out. You may be doing other mothers a favor. Good for you for standing up for yourself and your child.
this.
That's exactly what I said after, was I should have just been like 'well fine then, I will just sit here!' I have no problem nursing him in front of others, I just asked for the fitting room because I knew it would have a bench.
To the pp who said they never asked, they just grabbed something. I said I should have done that too, but then I said 'but I shouldn't have to!' I wasn't really asking their permission to use the room, it was more of a rhetorical question to be polite. I never in a million years expected them to say no.
FFS, it's a fvcking bra store.

Seriously. Can we make it a conference call? This makes me so irritated.
Right? What's the dial-in # and what time?

Well that would have been an expensive FU, lol.
haha. I live in my own little disposable diaper world sometimes
Totally agree! Schwandy and I actually nursed our kiddos on the floor in Borders once. Then again they never said we couldn't nurse in there and they weren't rude to us.
Oh, I'm not saying that she would have been wrong to do so. I'm just saying that's the way the store clerks were acting with how rude they were.
I have no meetings tomorrow, so whatever time works for you J

I'd guess around our age, maybe a little younger? GC, what do you think?
holy crap, you had GC with you & somehow these girls are both still alive? LOL
She had run into another store when I first went in there, and met me in the fitting room after. I brought the biitch bad enough on my own, I can't even imagine how bad it would have been if she were there when it happened!
Like, if you had walked in and asked to eat a sandwich in their dressing room without already shopping in there, would they have had a similar reaction?
Just being devil's advocate here ;-) I worked in retail for years and this was my first thought, not that they were anti- nursing.
SAHM to two sweet girls, both born at home; Baby #3 in 2013!
That doesn't sound like the case at all. Besides, it just being nice to a nursing mom. You are freaking bra store. You are all about boobs!
I get what you're saying, but the girl was stammering about fluids and diapers, not me taking up a room without buying something. She seemed truly disgusted and offended that I would ask such a thing.
Since you changed J's diaper in there, please please tell me that you squirted their walls with milk! That would make my day.
Seriously? WTF? Why would this ever be a problem?
And FTR, I've nursed in the Motherhood there. But I was trying on bras at the time.

Ditto. GC.
I hope you left the diaper there;)
Were you in the Wrentham outlets? I need to know so I can avoid that store from now on. lol.
